Amazon Kindle Reader for iPad

I’ve never been a big fan of the actual Kindle device when it comes to reading books. Mind you I have no problem with the device itself and I think it can be argued that the Kindle may have helped usher in the renewed interest in tablet. But, it’s a single purpose device and I would never read enough books on it to justify the cost. However, for voracious readers I think it would be top notch.

However, Amazon didn’t forget the rest of us and people like me can still take advantage of their expanding library of ebooks by using the iPad and the Kindle reader app. I actually downloaded it a week or so ago and bought my first Kindle book for it. I have to say I’m very pleased with how the whole thing has been working out.

As with most every iPad app installation was without incident. Once installed you connect to your Amazon account so it can download the books. To purchase books you just browse the Amazon site buy them just like anything else they offer. When you start the Kindle app up again it automatically syncs with your account and downloads any new books you have. The same book can be read on multiple devices, your place in the book is also updated on each device and any notations you make will also travel around. Kindle also has a built in dictionary lookup feature so if you come across a reference you can immediately look it up.

There’s not a whole of frills in Kindle, but then again it has the same basic feature set as other apps like Stanza. I’m pleasantly surprised by how easy the whole thing works. Plus, I have a tendency to not read the books I buy because we’re never in the same place together. And for anyone who’s seen my garage you know I have a tendency to lose stuff in there. With this method I can actually keep my books with me and it should be all but impossible for me to lose them.
