Over the river and off the cliff

Mistakes were made. The ground was pummeled.

Being the stout adventurer type, and since monsters had been turned off, I headed to the surface of the world and decided to venture out to see what was beyond the self imposed boundaries of my little sanctuary. Taking my trusty pickaxe and sword as well as a couple of supplies I headed out into the great unknown.

I headed to the East. I left my shanty far off in the distance. At times I felt like running home and saying to hell with this nonsense. But the assurance that I would not be set upon by Creepers kept me trudging on.

And in my solitude I passed magnificent landscapes, wonderful waterfalls, amazing rock formations and spectacular lava flows. In its own unique and blocky sort of way it was quite beautiful. I stood at the top of the mountain and looked around at the vast lands that stretched out before me. There were snow topped peaks, massive valleys and wide oceans. I was thousands of coordinates away from my humble dwelling. I was out there alone, just me and virtual wilderness. There was a pack of wolves that kept following me…

I forged ahead confident I would find a resource rich land. That’s when things went wrong. I had my head in the clouds and wasn’t paying attention to where I was going. This led me to fall off the edge of a cliff. The fall was spectacular. The speed was amazing. The landing was catastrophic.

My goods were scattered far and wide. Thousands of blocks away I respawned and stood in amazement at my complete lack of tools and made a mental note of how far I had to walk and how much time I had to get there.

Run Miner Run!

Why doesn’t this game have a run function?! Get out of the way you cow!

With the sun setting I made my way back to the crash site. Problem was, I didn’t know exactly where the crash site was. I noted my coordinates before I tumbled down the hill, but, what were the coordinates of where I landed? And how would I get there? Clearly I couldn’t go up the same mountain or I would just fall off again and that would make me look like an idiot.

I ran. I cried. I ran some more. And through stupid blind dumb luck I actually found where I landed. It was clearly marked with all my possessions floating in the air. I wasn’t too late! I’d made it!

I sat against the mountain and pondered (such as you can in the blocky Minecraft world) what to do next. Do I venture home and admit that the world is far too dangerous for me even with monsters turned off? Or do I keep going and try to tame the land knowing full well there are more cliffs to fall off, more lava to burn up in and more crossed eyed sows that may set my encampment on fire?

I dug a small hole in the side of a mountain, put up a door and considered the possibilities.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
