Sword & Poker – The Finale!

After a thousand hands of poker through 40 levels over the course of several months, I finally finished Sword & Poker. I finally made it to the end and defeated the End of Chaos. We went toe to toe and I when I saw he had 666 hit points I had a small accident in my pants. But, we traded blows and I survived with just 12 hit points intact. That was one hell of a game and I’ve been playing it for nearly two months now. I bought it for the iPod Touch when it originally came out and though it was a great blend of RPG and Poker. I started playing it again on the iPad and it actually plays better there than on the iPod. I wish there was an a true iPad version, but this works nicely. Awesome game though. I can’t believe I’ve finally been victorious.

Slysoft 20% discount

If you do any sort of DVD Ripping then you need AnyDVD. It’s the simplest and most up to date utility for transferring your DVDs to your hard drive. I do this all the time so I have backups and I use AnyDVD in conjunction with CloneDVDMobile to make MP4 and AVI rips of my DVDs so I can play them anywhere and even stream them to my iPad. If you’ve been looking for a way to copy your DVD collection then now is the time to grab a copy. Slysoft runs a 20% discount from time to time and they have another going until Sept. 25. Plus, on top of the 20% discount, you get a bundle discount when you buy more than one product. To be honest, it makes sense to go ahead and buy AnyDVD and CloneDVD together. It makes ripping a DVD and copying episodes so much easier. If you want to make your own AVI, […]

Where did all the good desktop blogging software go?

Seems like just a year or so ago the web was flooded with all sorts of blogging tools. You almost couldn’t turn around without running into a new piece of blogging software. Strangely, things seem to have quieted down. Those apps are still out there, but so many of them haven’t been updated since 2009. Zoundry was an app I really liked, but it went open source and died on the vine. There were simple apps like BlogDesk, but that too has been abandoned. Of course, Microsoft came along with Live Writer, which has a lot of great futures, but the development is extremely slow. When it comes to Internet technologies, you can’t wait that long to update your app. Then we have apps like BlogJet, which looks interesting, but not head and shoulders above any of the other apps, and comes with a $30 price tag. That’s a bit bloody steep. I’m all for developers getting paid, but let’s […]

Ambience is like Ambien

Since I’ve switched jobs and need to get up at 5am (who knew such a time existed) I’ve been trying to drown out the noises of the house so I can go to bed early. You would be amazed at all the things you hear when you try to go to bed at 9pm. The house creaks, the dogs scratch, cars drive down the street, the water runs and drips. It can be a bit maddening actually. So, I turned to the trusty iPod to try and help me out. I wanted to listen to something, but not music. I try to listen to the words or study the beat and never go to sleep. I was listening to audiobooks, but got too wrapped up in the story. What to do? I turned to an app called Ambience. Like one of my other favorite apps simply called, "Audiobooks", Ambience hooks into a vast repository of sound files and presents them […]

Let’s settle down on the fandom

Now, before people start calling me an Apple fanboy and Microsoft hater, let’s get a few things straight. I do indeed own an iPad and I love it. I think it’s an insanely useful and convenient device that lets me have a laptop computer in my hands at all times with a 10th of the weight and heat coming off of it. I also have an iPod Touch which I love and think is incredibly cool. Not only is it fantastic for songs, but the range of apps it offers me is almost mind-boggling. It’s a mini computer right there in the palm of my hand. However, there is no Mac desktop in my life (at least not yet), no Macbook Air, or iMac or any other Mac desktop or laptop. In fact, the last Apple products I owned were an Apple IIe and an Apple II+. Yeah, it goes back that far. I’ve used Microsoft products since the Dos […]
