Back into the wilds of Minecraft

I’ve forgotten the last time I played Minecraft, but out of the blue I felt the need to walk the open plains, to build a box out of mud and sand and call it home, to thrash the tall grass in search of wheat and run like the dickens as I turn the corner and come face to face with a Creeper. It’s been so long that I had to set up an all new account with Mojang. My copy was so old it didn’t even understand how to log me in.

That was an easy fix and then I was back in the game. Wow, things look so different! Sure, the blocks are the same, but there are so many new recipes and the survival mode is a hell of a lot harder than I remember. I lost count of the number of times I suffered the indignity of being shot in the back by a skeleton. Everything would be going fine and then I was face down in the dirt with all my worldly possession scattered on the ground. Then I would make the mistake of racing back to get everything only to get shot down again yet this time in my frantic bob and weave technique I lost my bearings and didn’t know where I was.

I had to let everything go and start over again more than a couple times. I love playing the game, I never said I was any good at it.

But then I finally made some progress after crafting a couple of stone weapons, planting some wheat and building a dirt house. I made even more progress when I found the nearby village and took it over by force. I suppose there was some retribution as I had to restart after getting stuck in the well. What a terrible miscalculation that was! Minecraft life can be cruel sometimes.

I still have no armor, bread is my only source of food, and I just discovered a few veins of coal ore so I can make torches, but I might just be on the cusp of scratching out a existence in this new world. I make no promises, I’m just as likely to fall in a lava pit or fall off a mountain or get blown up by a Creeper.

What a glorious day it will be when I craft set of mettle pants and build a bow and arrow.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
