Why is Daemon Tools Lite triggering Norton Internet Security Anti-Virus?

At first, I thought Daemon Tools Lite was a pretty damn good find. It was small, usable, cheap and had plenty of functionality. I still think the program is a good one, but I have reservations now since my AV software is triggering the installer as having plenty of malware inside.

After downloading the latest version DTLite501-0406, Norton became quite angry and wanted to remove the entire archive saying it had "Open Candy" inside. What is that you ask?

OpenCandy is a potentially unwanted application that includes offers for additional third-party applications during the installation process of legitimate applications.

Which doesn’t sound that bad, plenty of apps out there offer to install Chrome or toolbars and other things. Normally you just click No and go about your business. That might not be the end of it from Daemon Tools. Looks like it leaves a bunch of crap behind even if you say no to these offers. Looks like a couple of pieces of junk get left behind such as:

Asprox.b
bitool.dll

If you start looking at reviews, dozens of people are reporting the same thing. Their AV software either deletes the archive before they get started or triggers multiple times after the app is installed. And mind you, this is happening from the version you actually pay for. Shame on you Daemon Tools! You need to sober up and get this crap out of your app. I have a license so putting all this garbage on my computer is a complete scam.

At this time, Daemon Tools should be considered a malware payload that will attempt to install ads and other unwanted apps onto your system. Your AV may stop it, but there is no guarantee. Unfortunately, until Daemon Tools pulls their head out of their ass and fixes the install for a PAID app, it should be avoided.
