DVDFab offers Passkey at a discount for stranded AnyDVD owners

While DVDFab isn’t a program I’m that familiar with, as I don’t have it installed, nor have I used it, I have seen plenty of mention of it. Because of the issues surrounding AnyDVD, DVDFab is offering their Passkey software at a significant discount. Passkey is the equivalent of AnyDVD, while the DVDFab Copy tool is akin to CloneDVD. There is also a BluRay tool equivalent to CloneBD. If you’re looking to continue backing up your legally obtained DVDs and BluRays because you believe in Fair Use, want to build a digital media library, would like to make sure your rare discs don’t get scratched or want to play kids movies without having to wade through dozens of useless previews, then Passkey could be a good answer. I firmly believe the AACS has completely overstepped their bounds and are taking away the ability to back up movies you already own. As I’ve said before, I rip DVDs to my media […]

But wait, AnyDVD rises from the ashes as Redfox

Even though Slysoft shut it’s doors, I wanted to get the final version of each of their products. But what to my surprise when I found there was Redfox.bz, a rebranding of AnyDVD and perhaps a complete resurrection of the product. According to Neowin, Redfox has a new version of AnyDVD that connects to the Online Protection Database which is part of the mojo that makes AnyDVD work so well. Who knows if this is the real deal and how long it will stick around, but the forums are back up and running. You can’t buy new copies of AnyDVD, but if you have a valid license key, you can install and use the most recent update. You can go to the download page and see the following changelog: 7.6.9.1 2016 03 01 AnyDVD reborn! SlySoft is dead, long live RedFox! This is an intermediate release, so old customers can continue to use their existing AnyDVD license to watch their […]

Speaking of games to avoid – Racecraft – back in Early Access – again

For those that got shafted on Victory: Age of Racing, a game utterly abandoned by the development team, Vae Victis Games are back to give it another go with a completely different game – Racecraft. Only it’s the same game. The one they claim they wanted to make the first time around. Except they didn’t it make, took their toys and went home. But they mean it this time. Racecraft has just hit Early Access, and even though the dev team offered keys to those who purchased their previous flop, there is no reason to believe in this game or offer this team your support. They already have a 100% abandon rate and their other title is still available on Steam, although it is free to play their half baked never to be completed effort. It’s perfectly fine to admit you went the wrong direction with the game, ask for time to regroup and then come back fighting. But to […]

Check out the real life mud flinging between Dev and Publisher for SpinTires

If you haven’t kept up with SpinTires, you should have a look at the commentary showing up in the Steam library. There is a reference to a major bug that caused the game to crash. Unto itself, no big deal. But if you look at the linked articles from Rock, Paper, Shotgun and others you will see there is suspicion the crash issue was a direct sabotage to the game by the developer himself. That sounds like a little over the top, but you get the real sense there are some hostile feelings between the Dev and Publisher Oovee. To be honest, SpinTires showed a huge amount of promise during it’s Tech Demo days, but has been nothing short of a waste of money since then. It’s been plagued with issues, slow development, lack of features and a huge amount of bugs. In fact, the Tech Demo offered a slew more features than the released version. For example, you could […]

Amazon unveils the Echo Tap and Echo Dot

Amazon has just sent out email about two new devices in the Echo line, the Amazon Tap and the Amazon Dot. Both are variations on the original Echo design, but offer some nice variety. The Echo Tap is roughly the original Echo, but cordless and portable. You can take it from room to room or if you have a WiFi hotspot, even further. The Tap isn’t always on and listening for the “Alexa” keyword, so you have to push a button for it to respond. That doesn’t seem a problem and was done to save battery life. The other is the Echo Dot which looks like a little hockey puck. It’s the brains of Alexa without the big speaker. It can still play music, but it’s meant more for answering questions and looking up information that streaming music. It can make up for this with its Audio Out so you can hook up external speakers. I’ve already ordered the Tap, […]
