DVDFab offers Passkey at a discount for stranded AnyDVD owners

While DVDFab isn’t a program I’m that familiar with, as I don’t have it installed, nor have I used it, I have seen plenty of mention of it. Because of the issues surrounding AnyDVD, DVDFab is offering their Passkey software at a significant discount. Passkey is the equivalent of AnyDVD, while the DVDFab Copy tool is akin to CloneDVD. There is also a BluRay tool equivalent to CloneBD. If you’re looking to continue backing up your legally obtained DVDs and BluRays because you believe in Fair Use, want to build a digital media library, would like to make sure your rare discs don’t get scratched or want to play kids movies without having to wade through dozens of useless previews, then Passkey could be a good answer. I firmly believe the AACS has completely overstepped their bounds and are taking away the ability to back up movies you already own. As I’ve said before, I rip DVDs to my media […]

But wait, AnyDVD rises from the ashes as Redfox

Even though Slysoft shut it’s doors, I wanted to get the final version of each of their products. But what to my surprise when I found there was Redfox.bz, a rebranding of AnyDVD and perhaps a complete resurrection of the product. According to Neowin, Redfox has a new version of AnyDVD that connects to the Online Protection Database which is part of the mojo that makes AnyDVD work so well. Who knows if this is the real deal and how long it will stick around, but the forums are back up and running. You can’t buy new copies of AnyDVD, but if you have a valid license key, you can install and use the most recent update. You can go to the download page and see the following changelog: 7.6.9.1 2016 03 01 AnyDVD reborn! SlySoft is dead, long live RedFox! This is an intermediate release, so old customers can continue to use their existing AnyDVD license to watch their […]

The passing of Slysoft and AnyDVD

I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Slysoft, makers of AnyDVD as well as CloneDVD, CloneDVDMobile and VirtualCloneDrive has called it quits. Not only are they not making or selling their programs anymore, but the website has been reduced to a simple message thanking their customers for support over the years. I’m deeply saddened by this news, not just because a useful program has been taken away, but that the bully tactics of the MPAA have claimed another victim. I still hold that we as consumers have the right to backup our movies and this is heavy blow to those rights. Yes, there are plenty of people who collect and store Netflix on their hard drives, but as anyone who’s purchased a kids movie or a rare DVD knows, making a backup is essential. While there are other products like Winx DVD Copy and DVDFab, it’s a damn shame that AnyDVD has crumbled. In my opinion it was the best […]
