Besiege Machine of Mass Destruction!

Besiege is just awesome. It’s hard to downplay that. You get blocks, you get weapons, you put the weapons on the blocks and then plow headlong into danger. What could be more fun that that?! So here is a machine I’m quite proud of. Not because it looks cool or has some sort of innovative design. Or because it will perform some task that will make your jaw drop and look upon me with envy. It has none of those things. What it does have are spinning blades of death! Four of them! I take them and charge right into the middle of the crowd and let the carnage fly! The body count goes through the roof in a matter of seconds. In fact, this is the fastest I’ve ever cleared a level and my machine is still in one piece at the end, not the usual broken mess of parts. I get no points for style, but I should […]

Besiege update and behind the wheel of the War Machine

Exciting news! Besiege has been updated with new blocks that includes Balloons, Poles and Sliders. Not only that, the Mac and Linux versions are now available on Steam. That’s great to hear as we need more games that are cross platform! I didn’t get a chance to play with the new toys as I was too busy causing havoc and destruction behind the wheel of the War Machine. In case you didn’t know, it’s one of the many cool machines people have built for Besiege. You can check out videos of it in action on YouTube and you can see how it’s built in the forums. You can also download the completed machine if you want to take it for a spin. Following the tutorial, I built the main body of the rig. I wanted to see how it was done and it’s a fantastic design. It’s so simple, yet elegant and sturdy. It doesn’t use the wood blocks, but […]

Besiege has been completed! Let the real building of mechanized death machines begin!

Let it be known that I’ve completed Besiege! I’ve knocked down the houses, smashed the fortresses, crushed the houses, bashed the soldiers and set fire to the sheep! And not necessarily in that order! I’ve done it all! And I’ve done it with some of the most POS machines you’ve ever seen! It’s amazing some of them even stayed together let alone accomplished the task at hand. An 8 year old with a blindfold and broken tinker toys could build something better! But that proves you don’t have to be a mechanical genius to enjoy and be victorious at Besiege. Clearly, I’m no mechanical genius or genius of any other kind. Once again, this game is utterly awesome. It is so much fun to play. And now that I’ve bungled my way through the 15 levels, I can’t wait to go back and do them all over again using bigger and better (relatively speaking) machines. I feel like the first […]

A closer look at Besiege! Plus video!

So I’ve had Besiege for a few days and it is absolutely awesome! It may be Early Access, but it works so well and already has so much to offer and so many things to play around with! Not only is this one of the best sub $10 games I’ve ever bought, it is well on it’s way to becoming one of my favorite games of all time. I can’t wait for the rest of the content to be added to see what these guys come up with. But even with the single "world" there are dozens of challenges to complete not to mention the sandbox. Just because you finish a level doesn’t mean you can’t go back and build an even bigger, better machine that handles the tasks better or faster. I’m telling you, there is almost endless fun in mowing down foot soldiers and archers. For example, just because you knock down a tower or wall with a […]

Besiege – medieval siege engines to lay waste to immense fortresses and peaceful hamlets

So I found this on Steam last night and jumped at the chance to get a copy. Seriously, who doesn’t want to build siege weapons and lay waste to buildings and troops? You had me at medieval siege engine. (As an aside, the Ballista, Trebuchet, and Siege Engine were my favorite parts of Age of Empires) Besiege is a physics based building game in which you construct medieval siege engines and lay waste to immense fortresses and peaceful hamlets. Build a machine which can crush windmills, wipe out battalions of brave soldiers and transport valuable resources, defending your creation against cannons, archers and whatever else the desperate enemies have at their disposal. I was only able to give this a quick once over, but it was wickedly good fun. As stated, the goal is make siege weapons to take out troops and towers. The first couple of levels are simply driving your machine into a building and knocking it over. […]
