Time to throw away Freemake

Even though I think the Freemake tools, VideoDownloader and VideoConverter, are pretty good, they have to be removed. Both Norton Internet Security and SuperAntiSpyware are throwing alerts every time they scan these files. In fact, Norton quarantines the latest versions as soon as they’re downloaded. They don’t enjoy me trying to put OpenCandy on my machine. It’s a real shame too since I paid for VideoConverter. But even though I have a key, there is no OpenCandy free download for me and it still tries dump it’s payload on my hard drive. Not good. I understand Freemake needs to support themselves, but there has to be a better way. Let me buy the app so I can have a clean copy. Or at least let me put in the key and not riddle my machine with your ads. It was a good ride while it lasted, but Freemake needs to change their model. Clearly you aren’t going to make any […]

New version of Freemake Video Downloader brings back YouTube Playlist downloads

Freemake Video Downloader is one of my favorite download tools because not only can it grab the highest available video file from YouTube as a single file, but it converts downloads to MP3, allows for a massive download queue, allows groups of files to go into separate directories and it works with dozens of sites. If it’s a "tube site" there is a good chance Freemake Video Download can get the file. Whenever I’m scanning along in YouTube I have it open just in case I want to grab the file for later. Many tools grab videos from YouTube, but they don’t work outside that realm which makes them kind of limited. Unfortunately, Freemake has gone through a slump as far as updates are concerned and for quite some time it hasn’t been able to parse a YouTube Playlist. This is a feature it was able to handle before, but YouTube changed, Freemake didn’t and I had to look elsewhere […]

The trailers and commercials would play just fine, but the show never started. This caused a great deal of frustration and the gnashing of teeth. And when teeth get gnashed I go looking for software. It took mere moments to solve the problem. Enter Freemake Video Downloader; a tool I’ve already used to download videos from YouTube and other sites. Well, it just so happens that Freemake can download videos from Hulu too. And it does so without bringing down any of the commercials. That’s right, commercials free shows. Here’s how it works: Find the video you want from Hulu Right click the episode and select Copy Link Location Switch over to Freemake Video Downloader and click the Paste URL button Wait a few moments for Freemake to drill down and […]
