Camera+ for iPad – My replacement for the built-in camera app

I bought Camera+ several months ago, November 2012 actually, and I’ve been using it as my main camera tool every since. It offers a whole host of features I really like such as the camera level, the “rule of thirds” grid and the image stabilizer button. They really make it easier to get a clean and level shot. The other part I like is the camera roll. You get a nice thumbnail view, “lightbox”of your images so you can see which ones you want to work on. From there you can crop, rotate, adjust and add borders. The Scenes function adds some nice features such as Backlit, Flash, Sunset, Beach, etc, that change the warmth and saturation of the image. These are very similar to what you see in most Point and Shoot camera. A picture of a bottle of The Macallan 12 was warmed up nicely by the “Food” preset. The Adjust option lets you add White Balance, Straighten […]

Snapseed by Nik Software – Free for Today

I really don’t know anything about this app, but any camera app that’s free for the iPad has my interest. Not to mention this is by Nik software and they make some great plugins for Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. I don’t know if this is any better than the Camera+ for iPad app I bought just the other day, but I’m anxious to check it out. It provides the ability to take photos, Saturate, Crop and do other manipulations. That sounds like a good deal to me. And for the price of free, you really can’t object. Snapseed by Nik Software

360 Panorama

Here’s another little photography tool that might be worth a look. I love those big panoramic pictures of the city, the landscape, the canyons, but I’ve never put in the energy to try and make them myself. It’s not like there aren’t plenty of tools out there to help with the process, I just can’t get them all together at the right time. Until now. With 360 Panorama and either the iPad or the iPhone, you can take panoramic pictures whenever you want. I was experimenting with this yesterday on my iPad, and it comes across surprisingly easy. You point where you want the image to start and press "Start". The screen is turned into a large grid and you work you way from side to side, following the lines to keep the lens as level as possible. When you’ve travelled enough, I the iPad takes another image and stitches it to the first. As you pan across all the […]

Camera+ for iPad

Sure, there’s a built in camera app for the iPad, but you have to admit, it doesn’t do a whole lot. Once you take the picture, what can you do with it? What if you want to crop it? What if you wanted to enhance it or rotate it? You can try iPhoto, which I haven’t, but not only is it $4.99 with no “trial” version, Apple isn’t exactly known for belting out the updates. They toss an app out there and then as the next version of the iOS come along, they bring out an update. But I did find an interesting app yesterday, Camera+ for iPad. It brings up a grid (rule of thirds) so you can map out how the picture is broken up, there is a level, you can crop, you can make adjustments, rotate, see the ISO equivalent, add FX, use an image stabilizer and use a burst mode. I mean, there is a slew […]
