Rush at Time Warner Arena

It was a brisk night in downtown Charlotte, but it’s gotta be better than Ohio and New York and that pesky hurricane. The show, to put it simply, was amazing. Their playing has lost nothing over the years. They still have all the power and technique, perhaps more so than most bands who are just getting started these days. The Steampunk theme looked beautiful and there was even the addition of the "Clockwork Angels String Ensemble" who played on multiple songs during the second half of the show. Just like before, I was filled with emotion and memory. As Force Ten played the original art worked played in the background, I remembered watching the Show of Hands concert footage on VHS during my college days. I remember asking Donna, who is now my wife, what Joie de Vivre meant as it pertained to the lyrics. She was 17 at the time. We lived in Colorado. Our getting together would come […]

Onward Clockwork Angels

Despite the wind and rain, Rush will be in town tonight for their Clockwork Angels Tour. It was June of 2011 when we jumped into the Time Machine and went on a tour of Moving Pictures. This time we’re off on a Steampunk adventure across a wild landscape with an ever present Watchmaker who works to control everything. I wish I would have read the accompanying book before going into this tour. I have fond memories of last year show. Both of them. We went to both the Greenville and Greensboro shows. I remember that cozy coffee shop went to before the show. I remember that glimpse of Neil’s motorcycle parked outside the arena. I remember the amazing guitar playing, the funny antics, the stunning drum kit. And let’s not forget that that strange spill right behind us. I have no doubt this will be an amazing show. Too bad it’s not actually Halloween night! It still astounds me […]

Rush – What a night!

We got to Greenville way early. Everything said it was going to take nearly two and a half hours to get there but we seemed to get there in about an hour and a half. Concert starts at 7:30, we were there at 3. Not sure how we messed that up so badly. But we did find this fantastic little coffee shop that we spent several hours at. Now I’m not really a fan of coffee shops. They are just too beatnik and overpriced for me but I really liked this place. It looked like someone’s basement with chairs and tables scattered around. There were bookshelves all over the place and some simple paintings. It would have been great to decorate the old basement like that. We took a seat around a small coffee table, ordered a milkshake and just hung out and talked. The place was so calm and so mellow that I was reluctant to leave. I don’t […]

Back into the Time Machine

Tomorrow is the big Rush show. I’m very excited. I’ve been reading all sorts of new and stories. I read a letter where Neil is trying to explain to his daughter where he keeps going all the time. Daddy has to play the drums for people. Neil is also on Letterman Thursday night so I’ll have to download that episode. I’m really looking forward to this show. I feel awful for Theo. I wish it could have been our trio going to see that trio. It’s going to be a great night. Don claims he will be wearing a Rush shirt. I’m debating if I should bring out the inner nerd and wear one myself. I have two or three to choose from. Seems so ultra dorky to wear a Rush shirt to a Rush show. I keep reading Roadshow and wondering what Neil thinks of all these fans. I know he loves them, just from a distance. People were […]
