Intel Acquires McAfee For $7.68 Billion??? WTF??

First off, McAfee just isn’t worth this much cash. Second, what the hell is Intel going to do with the assets?

I’m not a fan of McAfee and never have been. Quite frankly I think they’re software is crap. I’ve had it installed with just about every machine I’ve bought and it’s a pain in the ass to remove. Not only that, they use scare tactics to get people to buy the subscription. Plus, the software is rubbish. It actually acts like a virus and I’ve had it miss more problems than it’s caught. There are far better solutions on the market than them.

But seriously, 7 BILLION dollars? How is Intel ever going to recoup that investment? They must have some bold new strategy they’re getting ready to unleash. I suppose they could just be trying to diversify their assets, but this is a huge stockpile of cash, you don’t normally just drop sacks full of money like that unless you have a far reaching plan.

Are we going to see AV on a chip for the Atom processor?

Is Intel looking to increase the OEM reach of McAfee on all their PC sales? If McAfee was installed on EVERY Intel based system sold that would be a huge revenue stream for them.

But there has to be something more…
