Affinity, thank you for the Lockdown 2020 sessions!

I wanted to give a massive thank you to Affinity for their Lockdown 2020 series. Each day this month they have offered a demo from a creative professional demonstrating their art, process, and method using one of the Affinity tools. It has been incredibly rewarding to see posters, advertising logos, sketches, and image processing come to life. There have been so many, "So that's how they do it!" moments. I've enjoyed every session and learned something new with each one. Even if the topic isn't your style of art or perhaps not even your product, the process and discussion make it worth watching. Again, thank you Affinity for putting together those session. The end of the month is fast approaching, but I hope you bring everyone back for another round of demos in the near future. By the way, bar code art, quite possibly the most intriguing and entertaining of them all, if I had to choose. 🙂

Getting (mildly) creative with the Affinity Suite

After watching the excellent Lockdown series by Affinity, I have taken up the digital paintbrush and have been playing around with Affinity Photo. Getting a behind the scenes look at how professionals use the product was just what I needed. I am no artist, and no expert. But after seeing some examples, dozens of pieces came together and I understood how to approach a couple of simple tasks. My use of masks and layers was slightly incorrect and seeing the different tools in action was eyeopening. It has been an extremely fun learning process. I am still only doing simple things, but things make so much more sense now. Having a tool is one thing, seeing the right way to use it is another. Once you see the proper way to outline an object, or use a gradient, or combine layers, dozens of possibilities open up. Not only do I recommend watching their tutorial series, I also recommend picking up […]

Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher

I am in no way an artist, although my stick figure art has been described as sublime. However, we all have a need for design tools from time to time, whether it be cropping photos, laying out text, color adjustments, or much more complex actions. When using Windows, Corel Paint Shop Pro was my editor of choice. It worked quite well and had the features I was most interested in. Since moving to Mac, I looked for a replacement. Photoshop is not an option for a dozen different reasons. However, Affinity, with their new line of tools fits the bill nicely. They are quality apps, loaded with features, at a price that makes sense. And it makes even more sense to get them. Affinity has put their entire suite of applications on sale during the 2020 Lockdown for 50% off. I had Photo from shortly after it first came out, but have added both Designer and Publisher. This comes on […]
