Amazon sets up subscription service for Showtime, Starz and others

I see Amazon has started a subscription service for movies and TV shows from Showtime, Starz and a couple others. This puts Black Sails, Outlander, Ray Donovan, Da Vinci’s Demons and quite a few others available for streaming just like Netflix. And the subscription price is $8.99 a month, just like Netflix. Well, it’s $8.99 on top of what you’re already paying for Prime. But Prime comes with a ton of it’s own benefits so $8.99 for specific content doesn’t seem too bad a deal. And to be honest, I wouldn’t mind paying a few bucks more on top of Prime to get all the Netflix content in one spot. This seems to be right in line with what I was saying a year ago, that Amazon is either going to consume, buy or merge with Netflix. Personally, this looks to be the start of an agreement with a content merger to follow later on once all the licensing is worked […]

For a very limited time, Voice Dream Reader – Text to Speech is on sale for $4.99 – 50% discount

If you like books, this is a must have application for your device. Voice Dream Reader turns every book you own into an audiobook. You can listen to whatever you want, wherever you want. You don’t have to wait nor do you have to pay the massive expensive of audiobooks. Simply load your book into Voice Dream and listen to it any time. I’ve listened to the Classics downloaded off Gutenberg as well as book ordered off Amazon. Voice Dream supports Dropbox which makes it incredibly easy to import your books. And just because a book comes from Amazon doesn’t mean you can’t listen to it. Voice Dream can’t directly read those pesky DRM protected .MOBI files, but with the power of Calibre you can easily convert them so you can listen to anything you buy off Amazon. Voice Dream is a great app to have while working around the house, mowing the lawn or driving in the car. I’ve […]

More Racing Fun with Need for Speed On Sale at Amazon

Steam isn’t the only one selling pieces of the Need for Speed series on the cheap. Amazon has several recent titles in their stable that you can grab for just a few bucks. While Steam is selling off the older assets, Amazon has some of the newer titles such as The Run, Rivals and Most Wanted. If you’re looking to round out your collection, now is a good time to buy. I picked up The Run and Rivals. I’ve never played The Run, but the gameplay videos on YouTube don’t look too bad. I’ve seen Rivals on the PS4 and while the graphics looked good, it was damn near unplayable with the controller. I hope something was out of adjustment and the game is a lot better than that. The reviews are pretty mixed with a lot of people saying this is a pretty poor port of the game. For the price, I’ll take the gamble and see how it […]

It’s amazing how wildly prices fluctuate on Amazon

Since I do a significant portion of my shopping online and especially since it’s the holiday season, I’ve noticed the prices on Amazon seem to have a wide swing. I was paying attention to a gaming headset and quite literally saw the price jump from $72 to $42 to $50 to $70 then back to $72 all within the same day. The same thing happened with a DVD box set I wanted. There are three pieces to the collection and the price went up by $10, then down by the same amount. I clicked Refresh a couple of times and got a lower price. And it happened again last night. I checked the price early in the morning and it was $20. I check again several hours later and it’s $15. This morning, it’s back to $20. The prices fluctuate like mad! That makes computer headphones, DVD and software. I’m not sure if it happens as frequently in other departments, […]
