Kin and Windows 7 Phone … You’ve doomed us all

We can armchair quarterback the Kin disaster all we want, but it seems there is some real fallout going on over this little blunder. There are more comparisons to the Vista blunder than you can count. And it seems some of the good folks who were at the helm during the long delays and then features cuts of Vista and the Kin are at the wheel for Windows Phone 7. I’m not really sure that’s instilling confidence. As one person from Microsoft puts it: http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-employees-embarrassed-over-kin-failure the same person who headed up the Kin project is now leading WP7, which is leaving employees on uneasy ground after the Kin launch. But no matter how you look at it, MS is struggling to find their way in the mobile market and many people think Windows Phone 7 might already be doomed. And in some ways I agree. Microsoft is taking way too long to get their product out the door. Regardless of […]

600,000 iPhone4 orders? That’s just crazy talk!

My buddy was trying order an iPhone when they came out and kept getting a crashed or unusable website. Seems he wasn’t the only one. Apparently orders were off the charts and chaos was everywhere! It’s crazy how Apple is churning out the gold bars these days with their devices. They sell out with the iPad (still don’t have one, still lust after it), they make billions with their app store, and now they crank out half a million orders on the first day. That company is just minting money these days. It’s hard to remember that back in 2001, Apple was struggling and was nearly on the verge of financial disaster when Microsoft paid them a few million to keep them going. Oh my how times have changed. Not taking anything away from Apple, they have certainly been making new products and dominating markets Microsoft has yet to crack. I’m just wondering when Apple is going to make a […]

The fervor of the iPhone 4

Now that excitement and fervor over the new iPhone has settled I have a few thoughts of my own. Basically, it’s a nice upgrade, but is it revolutionary? To start with, the Gyroscope is cool, but I’m not sure the practical use of it. The Retina Display is neat, but any increase in DPI is a good thing. And is 300 DPI really the limit for a digital image? 800:1 contrast seems pretty good, but in reality, it’s really not that high. The camera is a nice upgrade, but again, nothing major. While a phone camera really doesn’t need 15, 12 or even 8 megapixels in it, if the optics are high quality the image will be excellent. Considering the pictures being shot here are meant for Twitte, Facebook and blogs, this is plenty. I don’t think Apple actually mentioned who’s making the optics for them though. Shooting HD video is cool, but again, lots of other devices can do […]
