It’s so big!

In a last ditch effort to make my computer not suck, I replaced the puny 160GB boot drive with a Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB drive. I would really like to just replace everything with a completely new machine, but since that won’t be happening for at least 6 months, I decided to go with this upgrade. Plus, I can always use the drive in a new machine. Right now Windows is formatting the drive. This should take the better part of a day. And then I get the thrill and excitement of reinstalling everything all over again!

Star Trek

Star Trek exceeded all my expectations and I have no doubt this is a revival of the Star Trek movies. I am a big fan of the original Star Trek. I have fond memories of the episodes and certainly liked the characters and their adventures. I was drawn into the first few seasons of The Next Generation, but didn’t see any of the movies. Deep Space 9 was hit and miss, but I completely skipped Voyager and Enterprise. I have to admit, I don’t like movies that deal with time travel. Maybe it’s too convenient, maybe cliche, maybe it’s hard to take anything seriously since it all can change in an instant. While that plays a part in the story it’s not enough to be a problem. We start right in the middle of the action with the crew of the Kelvin under attack and George Kirk at the helm. We see dad’s leadership and sacrifice. We also see the […]

Angels & Demons

The first thing to note is that there are vast differences between the novel and the movie. Major portions have been omitted or significantly changed in order to make it work on the big screen and in the time allotted. The movie starts off in the middle of the action which the characters being brought to Vatican City through by different means than the book. There is nowhere near as much interaction between Vittoria and Robert as their is in the book and several characters featured prominently in the book are also missing. If you’re looking for all the back story and nuances that gave the book such depth you may be disappointed. That being said it was still a fine movie with plenty of action and drama to keep the story moving. Quite frankly I liked the movie, in the same way I liked The Da Vinci Code. It’s not really faiithful to the book, but as a stand […]

A Day at the Movies

Spent the day at the movies. Watched both Angels & Demons and the new Star Trek. Reviews will be forthcoming but suffice it to say both movies were excellent!

Soon, very soon

I was so tempted to go to the midnight showing of Angels & Demons, but alas, time just isn’t on my side. I really wish I could go tonight, but unfortunately that isn’t going to work out either. But make no mistake, I’m going tomorrow. And even though the bad reviews are already coming in, it’s not going to stop me. So many people thumbed their nose at Da Vinci code but I found the movie quite entertaining. Of course, I can’t trust reviews since so many people gave the thumbs up to Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull movie which I thought was a complete piece of crap. I can’t wait to see it and for the next Dan Brown book to hit the shelves. I think he has a wonderful simple style to his writing. It’s not great literature, but I really like the style and his simple approach. The plots and theories are outlandish and that’s where […]
