Megacity HD Review

In my $1 shopping spree I picked up a new game called Megacity HD, which has turned out to be quite a gem. It’s an interesting game that’s a blend of Tetris, SimCity and perhaps a hint of Mille Bourne. The overall object is to increase the value of the land in your small town. The specific objective is to raise the value of the land in column 1 to the goal. For example, adding a police station raises certain blocks +1. Adding a landfill lowers the surrounding value by -1. To start with, the goal of column 1 is 4, meaning you have to make all the land values in column 1 somehow total 4. Once the value hits 4, those squares are cleared away giving you more free space to work with.

The interesting thing is, you don’t get to pick the tiles. Those come out of the hopper and have to be dealt with. It’s a very simple concept, but once you get a few "negative" tiles in a row things start to look bleak. The properties are going down and you don’t have enough good things to bring it back up. That landfill you added in the corner won’t ever reclaim value and now it’s stopping you from putting in a police station or hospital. This is very much one of those game where you have to focus on the here and now as well as what the future brings.

It’s a great game that you can pick up for $0.99 and it should give you plenty of entertainment. It’s a lot more complicated and compelling than I first thought. It’s a great pick and play anytime kind of games and absolutely worth the price. You should grab it now before the price changes.
