Cover Orange – Am I Really Saving Oranges?

I was sitting on the couch playing Cover Orange last night. I’ve heard of this game but I’ve never actually gotten around to playing it. Yesterday while at work (don’t tell anyone), I downloaded the Valentine’s Gift edition to see what all the excitement was about. It’s very simple as a concept but the puzzles are quite diabolical. Oh, it all starts out innocently enough with just dropping a plank over a gap to protect the little oranges, but then it gets into real physics problems. I was just going to have a quick look to see how it worked, but before I knew it I’d played all the levels in this little demo. It really was a heck of a lot of fun! I will have to go and buy the full version so I can play the rest of the levels. And a copy of World of Goo.

How to stream video content to the iPad

I’ve wanted to do this for a long time so for the past few weeks I’ve been scouring the web and the app store to find a simple way to stream movies to the iPad. Sure, you can convert movies to MP4 and then copy them over, but what if you just want to watch something on the spur of the moment? Waiting 10-15 minutes for something to convert takes the thrill away. But after a little looking I found two really cool apps that let you stream the most popular file types like .avi and .wmv. Depending on your desktop machine it may take a few seconds to buffer enough for the stream to start but once they get going the playback is really good! First up is Air Server which is a $2.99 app that uses either iTunes or the Bonjour client to push content to the iPad. The setup honestly took less than a minute and all […]

Why can’t I find a decent RSS Reader for the iPad?

Why is it I can’t find an RSS Reader for the iPad that doesn’t suck? I spent last night downloading app after app just to turn right around and delete them because they were all complete junk. First off, why do they all have to hook into Google Reader? That’s completely pointless. I don’t want to go through Google Reader and if I did, why would I need a reading app? My Lord, not everything has to involve Google! The couple that didn’t require a Google account were complete crap. They had absolutely horrid UI’s, half the time they couldn’t find the articles and if they did they only loaded the first couple of lines and then made me load the whole website to read the rest. Hasn’t anyone heard of the idea of offline reading? These apps are massively flawed. And my God, where do people get off charging $4.99 for a reader that can barely keep a 1 […]
