iDos doesn’t survive …

It was short lived just like many of us thought. iDos burst onto the scene a few months ago, made a big splash and then was told to get out of the pool. Later, it came back and said it would behave and not cause any problems. It was allowed back in the store but problems persisted. iDos wouldn’t let you copy software directly to the device, but with one simple, free utility you could do whatever you want. And then iDos was gone again. Apple has pulled the app from the store again because you can use iPhone Explorer to install whatever software you want. Not everything works right off the bat and you may have to do some tinkering to get certain applications running, but getting software to iDos is a simple affair. · Download and install iDOS (version 2.0.1). · Download and install iPhone Explorer, a freeware that allows users to browse files and folders on iPhone […]

iDos is back, but different

I’m both excited and disappointed about this. I thought the idea of iDos was fantastic; being able to play those old DOS games on the iPad. Ok, sure, there were some obvious legal issues there. And it probably didn’t help that someone went off half cocked and thumbed their nose at Apple by running Widows 3.1 on the iPad. But seriously, the idea is fantastic. I would love to be able to play the Ultima series on the iPad. I absolutely loved those games, especially Ultima III and IV and think they would be pretty kick ass on the iPad. Those old games seem to port really well over to the mobile platform. Too bad Electronic Arts isn’t taking the time to retool those assets for a new generation. It would be great to go hang out with Lord British again. And there are tons of other great games that would work just as well. Games like Myst and Riven […]

OneNote for the iPhone. No really, it exists!

Microsoft has taken the first step, OneNote is now available as an iPhone application. It looks like it works with your Windows Live Account and works with the files stored there. In order to get true syncing you access your notes online at http://office.live.com. It’s not quite like having your notes in Dropbox, but hey, this is a huge first step for Microsoft. I’m very excited at the prospects of what this might mean for the future. There is obviously plenty of room to grow and hopefully a native iPad will be coming soon. And even better news, for now, OneNote for the iPhone is free. I’m off to go download my copy and check it out. Microsoft OneNote Mobile is the easy-to-use, powerful note-taking application for all of your ideas, brought to you by Microsoft Office. OneNote Mobile lets you create and view notes and lists whenever you need them. Sync your notes with free Windows Live online storage […]
