Checking out the iPad 3 at BestBuy

It physically looks like the iPad 2 and when side by side it takes a minute to see the differences. The screen is nice and the camera is quality is pretty good two. I’m sure it’s a hell of an upgrade from the original iPad, but I wonder if iPad 2 owners will see much difference. I still think it’s pretty sweet and it kicks the shit out of the Asus Transformer!

Working through Daylight Savings … again

This is just getting weird. I had to work last time we changed the clocks and here I am again. Wow, it’s damn dark out there, especially considering it’s actually 5am. Well at least it will be light when we get done with work. I’m still amazed at how many issues still exist with the time shift. Windows has issues, calendar items break, reminders don’t trigger. But the same thing happens on the iPhone. Previously set reminders don’t go off and calendar items are in the wrong place. See technology isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. But I did see a deer on the way to work. That’s always neat.

When it comes to installing apps, the Kindle Fire sucks!

It’s pretty damn obvious there are more apps NOT in the Amazon store than available for purchase. Google’s Android Market has plenty more to offer, not to mention sales, but good luck getting in on that action. Even though it’s Android based, Amazon has gone out of their way to prevent us from shopping anywhere else. Games like Cut the Rope and Flick Quarterback are on sale for $0.49 over at Google, but the damn Kindle can’t hook in. After spending hours searching for workarounds, gimmicks, quick fixes, hacks and backdoors, I’ve walked away realizing the only thing you can do is root the device and install a bunch of hacks, of which nobody seems to agree on the method and success isn’t guaranteed. What a load of crap! I complained before that the Amazon Marketplace is woefully inadequate when it comes to apps and games for the Kindle and this just seals the deal. If Amazon doesn’t have it, […]

Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington in "Safehouse"

Went and saw this movie last night and it’s pretty good. There is nothing new with the story, but the acting is intense and the action is non-stop. Just when things look like they might be slowing down to take a breath it kicks back off again and we’re back in another car chase or someone comes crashing through the door. This won’t win any Academy Awards, but I had a good time with it. As a point of reference it’s a bit of a mix of Man on Fire with some tinges of Training Day. It’s also a new twist to see Ryan Reynolds in a dramatic role. If you’re looking for some wanton destruction and wild action, give it a go!

Download YouTube Videos as MP4 and FLV

I came across this Firefox plugin and thought I would share. We all find cool videos on YouTube we want to keep and this extension makes it dead simple to download them and save them as either FLV or MP4. In fact, that’s the name of the plugin – Download YouTube Videos as MP4 and FLV Honestly, it couldn’t be any simpler to use. Install the plugin, go to YouTube and you get a new “Download” button: "Download YouTube Videos as MP4 and FLV" is an extension that adds a button on the YouTube video pages, so you can download videos as MP4 or FLV. The download button is displayed below the video player and it looks like any other YouTube button. How to use it? After installing the extension, go to YouTube.com and choose a video.
