The Art of Copy and Paste With ClipboardFusion

Everyone uses Copy and Paste, but even this simple function can be made better with ClipboardFusion by BinaryFortress. It’s an app that gives you ability to strip out formatting, keeps a history of your copied text and it can even run a search and replace on what you’ve copied.

Why would you need such a thing? If you copy and paste between Word documents, HTML documents, web pages and PDF files, there’s a good chance ClipboardFusion can make things better for you. Like so many people I work in a lot of web based applications. Those applications have all sorts of formatting like header tags, odd line spacing, bold, italic and all the like . I don’t need to send that to a customer nor do I need to paste that into my research notes. ClipboardFusion strips all those codes out so you just get the text. You don’t have to switch over to something like Notepad++ to remove all the formatting before pasting the text into your application.

I use this all the time to get rid of the colors and odd line spacing in emails customers send me. I can then paste that information into the system I’m working with and into the reply without making my email look like a child’s kaleidoscope.

It also works wonders to copy information such as explanations or Powershell commands from web sites  so that I can paste them into OneNote. There are some odd formatting choices out there. Just because they think it should be H1 tag doesn’t mean I do. It works great for blog posts as well. You can grab snippets, product titles and whatever else you want and not worry about how it was formatted.

You also have a clipboard history, something that’s still missing from Windows in 2014. And not just per application, but everything you copy. Let’s say you copied something from a page, pasted it, went on about your work and now you need that text back. Too bad the page you copied is long gone. ClipboardFusion has a copy. Just right click and get it back.

I have ClipboardFusion installed on all of my machines and use it dozens of time per day, especially at work. It makes it so much easier to copy between apps and not have my notes or email have all sorts of format changes. All text looks the same until I decide to change it.
