I’ve now added Cattle to my list of livestock in Banished

I’ve been extremely busy in Banished trying my best to get enough resources to keep my little village moving. I’ve done a good job of getting wood and after stripping the earth for Stone and Iron, I took the big plunge and made a Quarry and an Iron Mine. Since the major commodity is stone and iron, I desperately need more of it. Of course, these are the two most dangerous occupations in the game so I fully expect people are going to get crushed and suffocated. Hopefully, I won’t lose too many citizens over it. But, I did manage to store enough iron and stone to buy cattle from the merchant. I started off with 3 chickens and I now have 19 in my pasture so I bought 3 cattle so I can raise a decent herd. I believe the cattle yields both beef and leather. My population isn’t very high, but I feel I’m making significant progress in […]

Golden Spike Bicycle® Playing Cards

Since the comment was left, I decided to check out a new card deck on Kickstarter and it is indeed pretty cool. I’m a big fan of trains and history so it clearly has my interest. Here is a new deck called Golden Spike Bicycle® Playing Cards by Jody Eklund. I’ve bought several cards decks over the past few months and they are always fun to collect. These are one of a kind decks that won’t be available in any store you go to. If you want to get something unique this is the way to go. The Golden Spike deck looks quite nice and pays tribute to the golden age of rail. Golden Spike Playing Cards are inspired by the completion of the 1st Transcontinental Railroad On May 10th, 1869. It was the first rail line that connected the east to the west and revolutionized transportation and commerce in a post Civil War United States. A Golden Spike was […]

World travelling iPad lands safely at my door before lunch time

Wow, my new iPad is already here, several days ahead of schedule. As I commented before, it wasn’t supposed to be here until Thursday, but it’s already on the doorstep before lunch time. Damn, that’s efficient. So, now it’s time to wrap this rascal and get it set up. Oh, the fun of playing with and setting up a new Apple device. So much more fun than reinstalling Windows.

And they’re marching to Bastille day

There’s no bread, let them eat cake There’s no end to what they’ll take Flaunt the fruits of noble birth Wash the salt into the earth But they’re marching to Bastille day La guillotine will claim her bloody prize Free the dungeons of the innocent The king will kneel to let his kingdom rise Bloodstained velvet, dirty lace Naked fear on every face See them bow their heads to die As we would bow as they rode by And they’re marching to Bastille day La guillotine will claim her bloody prize Sing, o choirs of the cacophony The king will kneel to let his kingdom rise Lessons taught but never learned All around us anger burns Guide the future by the past Long ago the mould was cast For they marched up to Bastille day La guillotine claimed her bloody prize Hear the echoes of the centuries Where power isn’t all that money buys Read more: Rush – Bastille Day […]

It’s a banner day in Banished, I have chickens!

I’ve had some minor setbacks in Banished, such as a couple of fires, but that’s all behind me and I bask in the glory of my chicken purchases. Yes indeed, I was able to amass enough stone and iron to buy 3, count em 3, chickens. The long disused pasture will now be home to my flock of birds. This is a red letter day as I will now have eggs and chicken meat. I have come to see that stone is the major trading commodity in this game. Far more so than ale or coats. I have both of those in my market but none of the vendors seem to want them. If my calculations are correct, the chickens should multiply over time and once I go over a certain level they will be used as food. This is my first attempt at herding so let’s see how it goes. Next up will be the purchase of some sheep […]
