Have iPad, Will Travel – From China to Alaska

It’s only been a few hours and my device has made significant progress across the globe. In the 24 hours since placing my order, the iPad had already made it’s way from China to Alaska. That just amuses me to no end. We can obviously travel across the continent in a day, but it’s still an impressive feat. Going back a few decades and such things were unheard of. You’re clearly not going to make that kind of progress with the horse and buggy of years gone by. Just think of it, back in the day, travelling 10 miles by horse was an all day adventure. Going to visit neighbors meant you were going to stay a few days because of the distance involved. I just find it funny that a device I selected while sitting at my desk, is located from the big warehouse (not generically pulled off the shelf, but a specific model), is then boxed up and […]

Sometimes technology really does amaze me

So, a few months ago I had a catastrophic failure of my iPad. Sad fact is, it got ruined when it got wet. It was completely my fault and it destroyed a perfectly good device. I’ve been using my original iPad with the intent I would buy another when the new model is released. Alas, I couldn’t wait that long. I kept checking the Apple site and found a really good on a refurbished 4th Generation device. But here’s the part that astounds me. I selected the specific model I want. Keep in mind it’s a specific color and memory size. It’s also in China. I find it amazing that this specific device can be found in a warehouse of unknown size and shipped from thousands of miles away to my door. It used to be that it would takes months to travel from one continent to another. To travel from America to England was an epic voyage that would […]

Le Tour de France 2014

Going completely off topic for a moment, it’s the Grand Depart for the 2014 edition of the Tour de France. Yes, I know, people love the World Cup, but to me The Tour is big event sporting for the year; 21 days of racing and some of the most spectacular scenery. The 2013 edition was pretty damn spellbinding with Chris Froome taking yellow, but there was plenty of excitement with the wild sprint finishes, the grueling climbs and all the unpredictable elements that make the Tour so fun to watch. So here was are again for Stage 1 hosted in England. I wish NBC would offer more cycling on their VOD system instead of just this one race. You can watch days worth of poker, but you can’t get footage of a bike race. What’s up with that? Anyway, I’m so excited the race is on. The cobbles of Stage 5 should shake things up a bit and the pressure […]

Time to get ready for the mighty Kaboom!

It’s the 4th of July and I just got back from buying my stash. Here are a couple of small fireworks I picked up just to give the youngsters in the neighborhood something to look at. And yes, that is indeed the front fender of a Volkswagen Beetle. Pay attention to the fireworks man!

The Steam Summer Sale was Amazing! And it made me broke

Oh my goodness, thank goodness that Steam sale is over, I was about to go broke! There were so many awesome games on sale and I scooped up a ton of DLC for games already in my library. I got the entire AoE catalog, bought some add-ons for Tropico, got some new racing games like Bang Bang Racing, RC Cars, Hard Truck Apocalypse and then added some indie titles like Spelunky, Craft the World, Unepic and Steamworld Dig. Hey, when these games go on sale for $1.50, it’s really hard not to try them out. I think one of the coolest games I got was Banished. I’ve made quite a few mistakes so far, but the game is turning out to be really awesome. I like City Builders like this so I plan to spend a whole lot of time trying to lift up my village. But wow, so many games, so many new things to try. I’m also really […]
