Amazon sets up subscription service for Showtime, Starz and others

I see Amazon has started a subscription service for movies and TV shows from Showtime, Starz and a couple others. This puts Black Sails, Outlander, Ray Donovan, Da Vinci’s Demons and quite a few others available for streaming just like Netflix. And the subscription price is $8.99 a month, just like Netflix. Well, it’s $8.99 on top of what you’re already paying for Prime. But Prime comes with a ton of it’s own benefits so $8.99 for specific content doesn’t seem too bad a deal. And to be honest, I wouldn’t mind paying a few bucks more on top of Prime to get all the Netflix content in one spot. This seems to be right in line with what I was saying a year ago, that Amazon is either going to consume, buy or merge with Netflix. Personally, this looks to be the start of an agreement with a content merger to follow later on once all the licensing is worked […]

Scrivener for Windows and Mac Black Friday/Cyber Monday Sale – $25

As a final offer before the all the festive holiday sales come to an end, if you’re a writer, or an aspiring one, you might want to check out Scrivener which is on sale for $25. That’s around a 50% savings off the regular price. To be honest, I’m not as familiar with Scrivener as I should be. It has long been held as a quality writing tool and is very often mention in November to coincide with National Novel Writing Month (NANOWRIMO). I keep toying with the idea to get a copy and now I simply can’t argue with the price. I think this will couple quite nicely with Notebooks for Windows that I just picked up. I can use Notebooks to write down ideas for articles and then transfer them over to Scrivener if they’re going to take more research and links. The features for Scrivener are simply to numerous to mention, but from everything I can see, […]

Hand of Fate – Quick Review

Since it was on sale and the review were by and large positive, I just picked up a copy of Hand of Fate. I’ve been watching this one for awhile and with a 50% discount, it was time to grab a copy and see if it was any good. Mind you, I’m normally not one for deck building games. They really don’t tickle my fancy, but from everything I read, there is a lot more to this. I’ve only played for 2 hours, but I find Hand of Fate to be extremely entertaining. It’s a mix of deck building, RPG and Choose Your Own Adventure. You are dealt a series of card that determine the course of your adventure. You are given a situation and a few choices of how it can play out. Sometimes this takes the form of choosing the Success card from the deck, choosing to share food or gold with a stranger you meet or being […]

Massive Black Friday Sale on Steam

It should go without saying there is a massive Black Friday sale going on over at Steam with thousands of games on sale. There are top sellers and indie titles all looking to get added to your cart. Far too many to list, but you can grab some great titles like: Banished Besiege Hand of Fate Left 4 Dead Mount and Blade Windward Savage Lands Wolfenstein Medieval Engineers And so many others for $10 or less. My personal pick would be to grab Banished, Besiege and Windward, all of which are at the $5 point. That is some serious fun to be had.

Piriform updates CCleaner and offers 66% off Professional Plus Edition

We have yet another special going for a product I’m quite impressed with. CCleaner is a great app for sweeping away all the junk Internet traces and cookies that websites are so fond of spewing across our hard drives and for most people the free version gets the job done. And let’s not forget there is also the free version of Defraggler and Recuva. If you recall I’ve had to call up the services of Recuva once or twice in my fits of cleaning up my hard drive. And again, there are free versions of all these apps. Free versions that don’t have any real limitations or ads. So why pay for a full version when the free version is perfectly fine? Well, hard to argue with that, except, nothing in life is free. Someone has to spend the hours writing the code that makes CCleaner tick. And while you can certainly keep using it for free without fear of it […]
