Time for Bloodstains

An interesting little yarn for Halloween. It’s the story of Herman Webster Mudgett or H.H. Holmes as he came to known, the notorious serial killer of Chicago. Oddly, the Mudgett line continues today with Jeff Mudgett and he’s written his account of reading his great-great-grandfather’s journals. As a direct descendant, he gives his thoughts and understanding of his family line. This should make for some interesting reading.

Beautiful day for a bike ride

Damn, it’s nice out there. What the devil kind of weather is this for October? It’s the mid 70s, the leaves are changing color, the sun is out, the sky is blue. Time to ride my bike into downtown for a lunch date. I wonder how far I can ride?

$300k a day and Aeronautics Boxes

Crime City HD is having another event. I’ve managed to grab multiple Aeronautics boxes and my daily income is surpassing $300k. Of course, I seem to be spending nearly $1 million a day. I believe I need a financial adviser. As an aside, I was robbed for $10k, but returned the favor and looted for $100k. I think that worked out in my favor. This game, it keeps me entertained.

Advanced Uninstaller 5

Ashampoo has come out with a new version of their Uninstaller. I really should be using this more. I install and remove so much crap it’s ridiculous. I have broken apps and renegade services all over the place. I have version 4, got into the habit of using then all of sudden let it fall to the wayside. I really wish Windows had an Undo function like you see in VirtualBox. Uninstaller is about as close as we’re going to get. I should be a little more proactive with it’s use. Maybe I’ll be better with v5. Plus, it’s only $8. Ashampoo Uninstaller 5

Massive Website Audit

Here is an interesting tidbit, I used CoffeeCup Sitemapper to do a an audit of every link on a couple of sites. Turns out, there were multiple problems. I had IIS config problems, broken links, missing HTML files, pages that didn’t load, links that went nowhere and a few other problems. I even saw that a few of pages were malformed because of improper HTML code. I’d left off the opening or closing bracket and the page rendered rather poorly. I wish I would have used this earlier. Sitemapper actually goes through every link and gives you a status report for those links. It’s pretty damn thorough and quite enlightening. You normally use a Sitemapper to create an HTML version of your site, but I used it just to see if everything worked. Turns out, I have some broke ass sites. I bought this tool awhile back at a really discounted price. Seems I need to use it a little […]
