Dell wants to be their own company again

There is talk that Microsoft plans to buyout Dell for the rather large sum of $20+ billion. A huge amount of cash no matter who you are. There’s no doubt PC sales have been down and that can be accounted for in a number of ways. Obviously, people would rather make their money go further, tablet sales are very high indeed, people are upgrading phones and unless you are a hardcore gamer or need massive power for photo/video editing, the computer you bought a couple years ago will still serve your needs. Do you really need a faster machine to browse the web or download email? I think consumers are pretty content with the machines they have. That has caused Dell, Intel, AMD and to see their sales dwindle over the past couple years. Right now tablets are hot and PCs are not. So what is a company to do? Well, get itself out of the public eye, away from […]

Metal Box Event is underway – Crime City

Hot on the heels of the Camera Case Event there is now the Metal Box Event. (These events needs snappier titles.) This is an event with 4 groups of items that look pretty good. I’ve got 3 engines so far so we’ll see how this goes. I did pretty well in the Camera Case event and the Crown Jewel event, so we’ll see how I fair in this one. I don’t have high expectations for this one for some reason. 5 days and 17 engines to get seems like such a long way to go.

AMD and Apple are both coming in under the mark

Making $5 billion in revenue would normally be considered a success, but for AMD it’s sadly barely enough to keep above water. And that’s a damn shame because I like the AMD chipset, in fact my last two desktop machines are AMD machines with a 4-core and 6-core processor. I also have two laptops that are AMD powered. They are just as capable, but cost less than their Intel counterparts. In fact, I’m looking at building an AMD 8-core FX 8350 system later on this year. A friend I work with is already building the same system. As soon as the power supply and memory come in, it will be assembled. I hope AMD is going to still be around when I want to build my rig. And speaking of coming up short, Apple is now showing signs of weakness. Their stock has dropped from $700 to $400 a share. That still gives them $400 billion in market capitalization which […]

Surface Pro will fall flat on it’s face Feb 9th

The new Surface Pro PC in tablet form factor will be on the streets February 9th for the low price of $899. The Pro will offer support for Windows applications rather than just the scaled down RT apps. But is this really a worthwhile thing? None of the apps are actually written to be Touch enabled. I’ve seen people use the Surface and you still have to manipulate it like a PC. You have to use the attached keyboard and mouse to scroll the pointer around the screen and click objects. It’s not gesture based, it’s not completely Touch aware and it doesn’t appear to be catching on. Samsung has already said it’s not making Surface tablets and other PC makers are at odd with Microsoft over what to build. Windows 8 has not been the Golden Child MS said it would be and acceptance is coming in very slowly. I see iPads and Android tablets everywhere, but Surface tablets […]

Film Roll #10 in the Camera Case Event for Crime City

Just found Film Roll #10 with nearly 2 days left in the event. How the hell did that happen? I actually found 3 film rolls today and that’s put me at 10. I just got the Evidence Destroyer and the Disguised 177 a few hours ago. I mean damn, I’ve never finished one of these events so quickly. And I didn’t spend a single bar of gold. Nice. I wonder if I’ll be lucky enough to score some more cool weapons and armor or if the rest of the boxes will be “Better Luck Next Time”?
