PhraseExpress – I like these TextExpander apps

They go by many names – AutoCorrect, AutoComplete, Word Expander, Text Expander and Text Macros just to name a few, however the idea is basically the same, take a shortcut piece of text and replace it with something much larger to save time and typing. It’s a great idea for mobile devices, but is it worth the effort when it comes to a desktop machine. Until recently I would have said no, but I’m beginning to change my mind. Most Text Expansion tools give examples of inserting your signature or a greeting, which doesn’t really do anything for me. I don’t write that material so why do I need this tool. But then it dawned on me, I can use these tools to expand all those stupid three letter acronyms I have to deal with. Sure, I know what they mean, but does the poor sap I’m sending an email to understand them? And TLAs are being recycled through every […]

Need for Speed – Most Wanted or Hot Pursuit?

When it comes to gaming I prefer racing games. While First Person Shooters aren’t bad, they just aren’t my thing. That is as much to do with the fact that I suck at them and got mowed down within minutes of entering the arena more than anything else. Also, I still have a major affinity for the original Quake Arena and very little excites me like that did. That being said, I’m drawn to games like Need for Speed, Project Gotham, Gran Tourismo, Test Drive and Real Racing. Of course not all of those are PC, console or iPad games. So, I satisfy myself with the Need for Speed series. While I like the Real Racing series on the iPad, it’s simply too technical. Racing the track is fun, but I must prefer the aggressive Cops and Robbers style of Need for Speed. I’m a big fan of Hot Pursuit, I’m waiting for Undercover to be made into an iPad […]

I picked up my 5 film rolls in the Crime City Camera Case Event

It’s been pretty typical so far, I managed to get the first 5 film rolls within the first couple hours of the event and managed to get the Night Recon Helmet and the Narc Slayer. Not a bad start, but of course, as things get rolling it’s all coming up "Better Luck Next Time". I’m sure this will continue for the next three days wherein we all finally get a couple films added to our stash on the last day. Oh well, as I keep saying, it’s free stuff so no reason to complain.

Camera Case Event – Crime City

Well that didn’t take long, a new event is afoot in Crime City. Gather up the camera cases, find the film and earn prizes. I already like this event since there’s a prize at 3,5,7,9,10. I’m totally on board for #10 and the 30% cost decrease on building upgrades. That would be sweet! On to scavenging!

Run CCleaner on a schedule through Windows Task Scheduler

It’s always a good idea to clean out the browser cache on a regular basis and CClearner is an easy and FREE way of making that happen. I know I should have set this up a long time ago, but I’m just getting around to setting up CCleaner on a schedule. It’s actually quite simple, you just need to use the /auto switch to make it run without bringing up the dialog box and asking for input. To schedule system cleans (for example clean the system every Friday at 10am) you will need to manually create CCleaner entries in the Windows Task Scheduler. Please note that in order to do this your user account needs to have Administrative privileges. Open Windows Task scheduler. This is done by clicking Start > Control Panel. Then switching to the classic view using left navigation pane. Then entering Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler. Click Task Scheduler Library. From the Actions menu on the right […]
