Elementary – Not a bad series featuring yet another Sherlock Holmes

I’m a big fan of Sherlock Holmes and detective stories in general and enjoy plenty of the variations that have been explored over the past couple of years – except Sherlock with Robert Downey Jr, that was a piece of crap. But I have to admit I was a little hesitant when the new CBS version came out with Watson being portrayed by Lucy Liu. It seemed like they were stepped a little too far out of the shadows. Making Holmes a recovering drug addict, sticking him in the middle of New York and covering him in tattoos was also a little outside the norm. However, all things considered, this isn’t a bad little series. Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes keeps with many of the quirks and idiosyncrasies. I will admit, he’s a touch over the top when it comes to hit Watson. In both the Jeremy Brett and Benedict Cumberbatch versions, Holmes may take a couple of cheap shots […]

Epic Boss Event – El Diablo – Flat on my back at Level 8 – Crime City

This event has been a disaster for me. I was completely wiped out after Level 8. I barely scraped through that one with nothing more to give for the next round. And the stuff I walked away with wasn’t anywhere near what I expected. I got: El Diablo’s Firearm x3 El Diablo’s Knife x2 El Diablo’s Jacket El Diablo’s Mask x2 Oh well, not going to spend gold on these events, too much uncertainty on the outcome. I’ll just have to be content with the couple of items I got. Another event will be starting in a day or so, no need to worry.

TextExpander for $1

I’m not that familiar with this app, but I continually hear good things. For one day only, Wednesday, the app is only $0.99. From all the things I’ve read, TextExpander allows you to create shortcut keys that will expand to much larger snippets of text. As shown in the example you can type in aaddr and it will expand out to whatever text you have associated with that text. Additional you can associate emails with single words. TextExpander integrates with dozens of apps, including one of my favorites, Notebooks for iPad. I really like the idea of this app and with the ability to import/export notes to Dropbox this seems like a real win. I’ve just downloaded the app so now it’s time add some text and key combinations and see how it goes. Let’s see what we get. TextExpander

iPhone 5 Production is cut, Stock falls for Apple

Oh damn, isn’t this quite a turn of events? Apple has been forced to cut production of the iPhone 5 due to weaker than expected sales. In fact, production has been cut in half. What the hell, is this the Surface? Meanwhile, Samsung swings hard and sells a massive number of phones – According to market intelligence firm IDC, Samsung’s Galaxy controlled 31.3% of the smartphone market in the third-quarter of 2012 compared to 14.6% for Apple. Apple stock has dropped from $705 to $503. Still a pretty healthy value, but perhaps showing some signs of distress. So where does this leave Apple? Can they pull it out of the mud with the next iPhone and iPad? Have they updated too quickly with only minor changes? As with all companies, you can only be at the top for so long. Apple is still making money, far more than most companies, but this could be a sign. Apple Cuts Orders for […]

Karateka – Boot to the head!!

First off, the game looks quite nice and the sound is pretty neat. However, I’ve run into a couple of problems so far. First, the game wouldn’t start. I had to shut down the iPad completely, not just kill the game and let it reboot. I don’t remember the last time I had to actually turn the iPad off. Unimpressed. Second glitch came at the palace after defeating my opponent. The scene changes to a long shot of the monk with the lanterns overhead. All he does is stand there and bow. He won’t move forward. You have to kill the game and restart in order to keep moving forward. Seriously, no one saw this glitch during the QA gameplay? (Thanks to kgelner in the TouchArcade Forums for the solution – http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=171132&page=6) Overall, pretty cool, but some issues need to be worked out. Hopefully a new update will be coming soon. But then again, by the time that happens, the game […]
