More levels and more items for the last few hours of the SotA pledge drive

With just over 2 days left to pledge and get in on the action before the Kickstarter project comes to an end, the SotA team has added several new items and even a new level to the pledge drive. There is the Knight Level with upgraded house and decorations, the Crystal Sword, downloadable content to use in your own projects and house pets right off the bat. I have to ask, what is the Expert Level Crafting Station? It sounds quite intriguing, but what exactly does it do? There is an Elderberry Fruit and an Immortality Fruit? And I will get both? Bwahahaha!! Out of those gifts the Crystal Sword sounds really cool, but alas, it sounds like it can only be used once and then it shatters. Did the Leather Case Event just disappear?

I restarted my device to collect gold and now the event is gone. What the hell happened? I don’t see the icon and none of the cases show. I have to say this is pretty crappy. There was a full day left. What the hell did Gree just do?

Leather Case Event – Find Bearer Bonds – Crime City

This event took forever to come up and it’s shows with only 3D9H left. Did I miss an entire day or something? Anyway, it’s a 3,5,7,9 and 10 item event with the final item, the Executive Coupe having some impressive stats 1463A and 1185D. But more importantly, upgrades will cost 30% less! Considering the time I’ve lost I’m sure that damn thing is out of reach, but I’m going to try my damnedest to get that thing. With the price of upgrades now, that would be a massive savings!

New Stretch Goals Revealed for Shroud of the Avatar

We’re in the final days of the pledge drive and Lord British has revealed the final prizes to be earned as more stretch goals are met. I don’t know how likely we are to see some of these stretch goals in the original release, there’s a good $200k to go to reach the next level, but some of these ideas are pretty cool. Garriott has new land types, shipping lanes, a serialized novel of backstory (signed by Tracy Hickman and Richard Garriott),castles, keeps, guild wars, modding tools and all sorts of other things. It’s a pretty impressive and extensive list. I don’t know if an additional $1 million can be raised in 5 short days, but never underestimate the final drive to make something happen. I would love to see the Tracy Hickman novel come to pass and get a signed copy. And let’s not forget that Garriott has opened up beta access to all 5 episodes of the game […]

Watching Shroud of the Avatar take shape

All this talk of Ultima and the Avatar has made me sentimental so I’ve literally watched a couple of hours worth of interviews with Richard Garriott about the history of Ultima and how we ended up with the concept of Shroud of the Avatar. Turns out the kernel of SotA has been floating around since 2011. Garriott brought it up at some keynote speeches as well as offering the concept in a couple interviews. And then he went off to create Portalarium with the express intent of making SotA. Garriott also noted that he tried to reach a deal with EA over using the Ultima name. It seems they couldn’t come to terms, which may not be a bad thing. Maybe it’s best to start anew rather than trying to make an Ultima Online 2.
