Ultima Forever–Quest for the Avatar

There is a lot of renewed interest in Ultima these days. We’ve seen a couple of recreations of the classic games and now we have a brand new version coming to iOS devices, especially the iPad. I’ve been longing for Ultima to make an appearance ever since I bought my first iPad three years ago. It seemed the perfect platform, but alas, neither Electronic Arts nor Lord British was able to make it happen. Until now. The long wait is nearly over as Ultima Forever – Quest for the Avatar has been spotted in the Canadian App Store and hopefully that means a worldwide release is imminent. Normally I shy away from "free" games especially from studios like EA and Gameloft. Their Freemium games come riddled with bugs, are light on content and heavy on asking for handouts in the form of real money to progress through the game. I’d rather buy the game and put an end to all […]

Camera+ for iPad – My replacement for the built-in camera app

I bought Camera+ several months ago, November 2012 actually, and I’ve been using it as my main camera tool every since. It offers a whole host of features I really like such as the camera level, the “rule of thirds” grid and the image stabilizer button. They really make it easier to get a clean and level shot. The other part I like is the camera roll. You get a nice thumbnail view, “lightbox”of your images so you can see which ones you want to work on. From there you can crop, rotate, adjust and add borders. The Scenes function adds some nice features such as Backlit, Flash, Sunset, Beach, etc, that change the warmth and saturation of the image. These are very similar to what you see in most Point and Shoot camera. A picture of a bottle of The Macallan 12 was warmed up nicely by the “Food” preset. The Adjust option lets you add White Balance, Straighten […]

The Italian Jab – A New 40 Job Extravaganza

Gree has unleashed a new variation on The Hit Lists job from last week. You’re given a list of 40 jobs that you need to complete as quickly as possible. It’s a race against the clock to extort, bribe, intimidate and destroy evidence. And with each group of jobs you complete you get cash and respect or cash and a new high attack weapon. There’s 5 days to get as much done as possible and collect as many new weapons as you can. Oh sure, it seems easy at first, but the jobs get harder and take more stamina with each new location. Trust me, you’re going to need to recharge for the entire day before you get the next one. I got to Level 30 last time around and finished off that last job with 10 minutes to spare. To make it all the way I’m sure you need gold – otherwise what would be the point of Gree […]

A week with Windows 8

Well, I gave it a fair chance, I’ve worked with Windows 8 for the entire week to see what kind of OS it really is and whether or not it could win me over. So far, Windows 8 fails to impress or inspire. It’s a completely underwhelming rehash of Windows 7 with one of the ugliest Interfaces I’ve ever seen. Right off the bat I didn’t like Windows 8. I like the Start bar and thought that was a good way to interact with installed apps. A desktop full of icons that you can’t seem to get to easily isn’t my idea of an upgrade. And quite frankly I’m sick of people telling me I need to press Windows-X in order to make things happen. If I’m not mistaken, this is Windows, the interaction is supposed to be with a mouse. But moving past that there are just too many thing I dislike about this new OS and I stick […]
