Rise of Nations getting re-imaged and coming to Steam

First there was Age of Empires HD, then Age of Mythology HD and coming next month, Rise of Nations: Extended Edition. Microsoft has purchased the IP from Big Huge Games and with the help of SkyBox Labs will update the graphics, add multiplayer and achivements and release both the original Rise of Nations and the Expansion Pack "Thrones and Patriots". Quite an interesting trilogy of games which is both exciting and sad. It’s exciting to see these games come back to life as they were incredible works that held my attention for months. Age of Empires is still a fantastic game and Rise of Nations added it’s own great elements. It’s sad to realize that the studios behind these games have all gone defunct and Micorosft purchased the IP rights in a bankruptcy sale. How can you go from making a best selling series of games to selling off what little you have left in a fire sale. So disappointing. […]

Turning my music and video collection over to Audials One

I’m not sure why it didn’t occur to me earlier, but I just recently decided to let Audials One index all my movies and music, something I’ve tried half a dozen times with other programs and it’s never seemed to work out. I just want a program to go through my drive and make an index of all the movies and music. I don’t want to add them one at a time and go through the process of adding metadata and box covers. If nothing else, just make an index by file and folder name, in most cases that will be enough to get started. All these movie and music collector apps make it too hard to get started. But Audials makes a simple index just like I want. It will use metadata if it finds it, otherwise you get a big list of files you can search for by name. Now we’re making progress! Now that I have my […]

Google Becomes the Most Valuable Brand in the World

Google pushes past Apple and becomes the most valuable brand in the world with assets of $158 billion. Egad, that is an insane amount of money! Who the hell can count that high? Apple drops to a mere $147 billion. Oh my goodness, they’re nearly bankrupt aren’t they?! Seriously, that is an incredibly amount of wealth between these two companies, but that’s the tip of the list. IBM holds #3 with $107 billion and MS in #4 with $90 billion. Isn’t that a bit of irony, Big Blue has jumped ahead of their old rival Microsoft. We’re still talking billions and billions of dollars in profit, but that has got to have a bit of sting to it. You know, we’re talking about half a trillion dollars here. Damn. Google Skips Ahead of Apple as Most Valuable Brand in the World Top 100 Companies

Kickstarter Projects for People Who Like Card Games

Greetings my friends! I wanted to pass along some very neat Kickstarter Projects that I think are worthy of support. I’ve mentioned before I like card and board games and with that I’ve supported several Kickstarter game projects. I recently mentioned the Mayhem deck by Cardicians which has been fully funded with several stretch goals left. They have 6 days left so if you want to jump on board you need to hurry. But that isn’t the only one, there are some other really cool card decks I wanted to pass along. First up we have the Bicycle Occults Playing Cards Deck which has almost hypnotic effect to the back of the cards. The cards themselves are quite elegant and there are some nice addons like the Collector’s Coin, Poker Chips and T-Shirt. Give that one a look and perhaps offer a little support. Bicycle Occults Playing Cards Deck Next up is the Muertos – Day of the Dead Playing […]

Star Wars, Ubuntu and Audials One

This weekend took and interesting turn and it all started off with a little story called Star Wars. Since May 4th came around I’ve had a yearning to watch Star Wars again. It’s literally been decades since I’ve last seen it because I want to see the original ones. Not just the original trilogy, but the original Unedited version that came out in theaters. Not the remastered copy with all the changes, the honest to goodness real version that came out in the late 70s. The one where not only does Han shoot first, he takes the only shot as Greedo is far too dead at the other end of the table. After all this time I managed to get my hands on those very movies and on Saturday I sat down to watch Star Wars. Now, despite some less than stellar acting – Harrison Ford seems to be the only one who’s truly comfortable in front of the camera, […]
