Now I’ve brought MediaMonkey into the mix

I used MediaMonkey a long time ago and thought it was pretty good, but it slipped from my mind because my music collection really wasn’t worthy of such things. Well, that was then. Now, my collection has grown a little unruly. It includes both my own CD collection (remember those?) and a slew of digital downloads in MP3 format. As I’m moving files around I see my Audio stash is now 50GB. That includes a slew of audiobooks (Librovox has some awesome stuff), tutorials, training and music. Things have gotten a lot more complicated.

I brought in MediaMonkey to try and fix all the tags and organize the files so I can make sense of them and which album, course, or book they belong to. Much to my surprise MediaMonkey is way more than just an MP3 tagging tool. It has a slew of features I didn’t know anything about. Alright then, let’s see what happens when I unleash this on my media collection?

Once I selected where everything was located – Drive and Folder, it scanned through the entire collection without issue. It found all my .avi, .mp4, .mkv as well as .mp3 and .wma files. It then went through and tagged them based on the information it found (this is part of the problem I need to fix since the tags are less than complete). It also generated thumbnails of the video files (as best it could) and gave me a massive playlist. Ok, now what?

I start to type in the name of something and up comes a list of things that match, music and movies. Alright, pretty sweet! I tried a couple of examples for movies and music and found all the titles I was expecting. Wow, MediaMonkey is really impressive! So, now I learn that MediaMonkey can be used to find and play all my media as well. It doesn’t have the ability to record video or music like Audials, but wow, it has some damn nice features. And here I thought it was just for tagging music in bulk.

Having both might be a little redundant, but I’m not going to be distressed over that.
