Norton Internet Security 3 User – $16.99

I’m pretty disappointed with the Cyber Monday sales so far. Cost of hard drives went up that’s for sure. There have been a couple of bargains, but honestly, nothing spectacular. I did pick up a new copy of Corel Paint Shop Pro X5, so that was good. Adobe has Lightroom and Elements on sale which is nice. If I needed a monitor I would be in good shape. But as far as cameras and drives go, the sales are lame. But here’s something. Cyber Monday, one day only. This is the 3PC, 2013 version. Not a bad price at all! $16.99 for the boxed version. Let me gaze upon the Microsoft Surface

I just had my first glimpse at the Microsoft Surface and it’s actually a pretty nice looking device. The screen looks very similar to the Kindle Fire screen. The aspect ration is 16×10, which doesn’t look bad, but feels a tiny bit elongated to me. The keyboard/cover combination is pretty nice. It even has a mouse pad built in. The images are bright and Angry Birds looked quite nice. We were having some network problems so we couldn’t put it through it’s paces, but overall it’s much better than I expected. The Windows 8 UI is certainly geared more towards the tablet, but I’m still not sure I like it. The live tabs don’t look too bad, but they don’t look good everywhere. The app store seems hard to navigate and sort of came across as a beta version. Some of the touch features didn’t come across as responsive as they should. I did like that the keyboard could snap […]

Advanced Uninstaller 5

Ashampoo has come out with a new version of their Uninstaller. I really should be using this more. I install and remove so much crap it’s ridiculous. I have broken apps and renegade services all over the place. I have version 4, got into the habit of using then all of sudden let it fall to the wayside. I really wish Windows had an Undo function like you see in VirtualBox. Uninstaller is about as close as we’re going to get. I should be a little more proactive with it’s use. Maybe I’ll be better with v5. Plus, it’s only $8. Ashampoo Uninstaller 5

Massive Website Audit

Here is an interesting tidbit, I used CoffeeCup Sitemapper to do a an audit of every link on a couple of sites. Turns out, there were multiple problems. I had IIS config problems, broken links, missing HTML files, pages that didn’t load, links that went nowhere and a few other problems. I even saw that a few of pages were malformed because of improper HTML code. I’d left off the opening or closing bracket and the page rendered rather poorly. I wish I would have used this earlier. Sitemapper actually goes through every link and gives you a status report for those links. It’s pretty damn thorough and quite enlightening. You normally use a Sitemapper to create an HTML version of your site, but I used it just to see if everything worked. Turns out, I have some broke ass sites. I bought this tool awhile back at a really discounted price. Seems I need to use it a little […]
