A massive undertaking to organize my files

My hard drives are a mess. I’ve got files scattered everywhere. And I mean everywhere. Across terabytes worth of space. I didn’t spend any time at all naming these files or putting them into folders. Now, I’m paying the price. After using Copernic Desktop Search and Index Your Files I realize the mess I’ve made. Now I have to try and bring in some order. I spent almost the entire day Saturday and most of Sunday creating folders and copying files. I’ve renamed hundreds of files so they actually contain a useful title and even some keywords. Now when I search for them they should pop right up. I quickly found out I have hundreds of duplicate files too. Seems I download a file, forget that I downloaded it, and then download it again. Or I give it one name and put it in a folder, then name it something else and stick it in another folder. Maybe I shouldn’t […]

When did Microsoft lose it’s Mojo?

I think it would be hard to argue that Microsoft has been on a downward spiral for the last decade. But what was it that sent them into these dark times? Sure, they lost the case against the DOJ and have been slapped on the hand over Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player, but their decline goes way beyond that. If you recall, Windows 2000 and Windows XP were well received Operating Systems. The Xbox and the Xbox 360 have both been well received, even though they’ve had plenty of hardware issues. Don’t act like that red ring of death doesn’t exist. Office 2003 and 2007 went over well with customers. Windows 2000 Server had some growing pains, but Windows 2003 really pulled things together. Exchange 2000 had some issues, but again, 2003 pulled it together. Microsoft even had a big game division. I seem to recall AoE, RoR and Halo being huge sellers. It’s not like Microsoft isn’t making […]

Microsoft workers celebrated Windows Phone 7 RTM with iPhone hearses

This is actually quite funny. Maybe a touch premature, but funny none the less. At least Microsoft is ready to get this product out the door so we can all see what happens. Does this comment sum it up? Fans believe it should go after Android. Analysts believe it should go after BlackBerry. Microsoft appears to be going after Apple. Personally I don’t believe it could make dents in any of them. Microsoft workers celebrated Windows Phone 7 RTM with iPhone hearses

Microsoft needs to get on the ball and make Office for iPad

I said quite awhile ago that Microsoft really needs to make OneNote for iPad and that seems even more relevant these days. Since the iPad is now 3 million+ users, Microsoft needs to stop sulking and put Office on this new platform. iPad already has the pages application, but it seems to me users would welcome the familiar look of Word on the iPad. Clearly there is an Office for the Mac so a "port" doesn’t really seem out of the realm of possibility. Considering a third party has put together Mobilenoter, imagine what the company who actually wrote OneNote could do. But Microsoft would have to swallow some pride and the bitter pill of making mobile software for something other than their precious Windows 7 Series (which isn’t even out yet). This is a prime example of a market that is available, but Microsoft isn’t stepping in to take advantage. I personally feel there are enough users (myself included) […]

Ashampoo Burning Studio 2010 Advanced – Free

Ashampoo Burning Studio 2010 Advanced is a compact, lightweight program that delivers all the core disc burning functionality you need in one straightforward, easy-to-use interface. The program isn’t weighed down with unnecessary extras. There’s no media organiser here, no audio or photo editor, no lengthy list of options that you’ll never use, which gobble up hard drive space and make it harder to find everything else. Instead Burning Studio 2010 Advanced concentrates on the essentials: creating data discs, burning or ripping music, and creating video DVDs (from a prepared folder). You’re able to create or burn disc images (ISO, CUE/BIN and ASHDISC formats are supported). A design tool helps you quickly create attractive covers, labels and booklets for your discs.
