Big Win Football turned into a Big Lose

I’m no fan of the freemium game and feel this sort of development leads to half-baked games that spend more time nagging you for money than offering a fun gaming experience. Gameloft has proven this time and time again (Let’s Golf 3 and Asphalt 7), with Electronic Arts following close behind. However, after trying Crime City and enjoying it, I got suckered into playing Big Win Football. On the surface the game has great appeal; you buy packs of football cards which contain players, skill cards, big impact card and contract extensions. You make players better with skill cards, keep them on your team and playing at their best with contract extensions and give yourself special abilities during the game with the Big Impact cards. It all sounds quite enjoyable and for about 10 minutes it is. Then you run out of coins and piss away the rest of your time watching videos to try and replenish your supply so […]

Camera+ for iPad

Sure, there’s a built in camera app for the iPad, but you have to admit, it doesn’t do a whole lot. Once you take the picture, what can you do with it? What if you want to crop it? What if you wanted to enhance it or rotate it? You can try iPhoto, which I haven’t, but not only is it $4.99 with no “trial” version, Apple isn’t exactly known for belting out the updates. They toss an app out there and then as the next version of the iOS come along, they bring out an update. But I did find an interesting app yesterday, Camera+ for iPad. It brings up a grid (rule of thirds) so you can map out how the picture is broken up, there is a level, you can crop, you can make adjustments, rotate, see the ISO equivalent, add FX, use an image stabilizer and use a burst mode. I mean, there is a slew […]

Irish Red for the Holidays

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve gotten behind the kettle and made beer. The temperatures were too damn hot to get anything to cool down in a reasonable amount of time. I bought an Irish Red 6 months ago, right before the temperatures went through the roof. It’s been sitting and waiting for me brew it up. Well, with the temperature dropping to a lovely 60 degrees, it’s the perfect time to make that batch. Considering where we are in the year and how long it will take to ferment and mature, we’re at the right spot to have this beer ready by the time we hit Christmas. The aroma of the Irish Red is wonderful in my opinion. It’s sweet and light and has a fragrance of a delicious tea, which is in essence what it is right now. The boil and steeping went extremely well. The yeast is in the carboy and the first signs of fermentation can […]

Get out there and Vote!

It doesn’t matter who you vote for, but you need to exercise that right and vote. Men and women have given their lives so that we can live in a democracy. It may not be perfect, it may not be the best, it may not be everything we want it to be, but it’s clearly better than the alternatives. Get out there And Rock and Roll the Bones!
