Gun Locker Event – I got all the pieces

Well, ain’t this something. I actually got all 10 rifle pieces before time ran out. I’m simply stunned. Most of the time I come away with nothing, but this time I managed to get the Big Rifle. I also got a couple of cars and some decent armor. And, I didn’t spend any gold on it. I reached the end for Willie King. I got through Level 11 and now I don’t have quite enough to make 12. I’ll see if I can buy something with a little Boom Boom just to finish one more level. I could spend a couple million on weapons, but I have the feeling it won’t be quite enough. I’ll have to be content with the loot I’ve gotten so far. I like the Gun Locker event a lot more than the others, at least there were more items to get for the effort.

Things to avoid for Christmas

iPad Mini – No surprise there, just buy an iPad 2 for a couple bucks more. Windows 8 – No shocker there. Lowest priced Microsoft upgrade and people still don’t want it. Surface – Not a tablet, not a laptop, not selling in mass. Microsoft isn’t shipping the volume they want and has already scaled back orders. And really, you want to wait for the Pro version which is going to cost nearly $1,000? That would be an amazing laptop that can do a hell of a lot more or a Mac Book Air, which is wafer thin, light, durable and has a lot better app support. Holiday Gifts to Avoid

Office 2013 Looks Like Ass

I just got my first look of Microsoft Office 2013 and it looks hideous! All the color, all the depth, all the contours and shapes are completely gone. After spending years "sculpting" icons, the apps look like they’re running through a monochrome dumb terminal. I’m not a fan of the Ribbon Bar to begin with, but this makes a bad design look even worse. I wish I had a screenshot, but it was on another machine. I’m sure there are plenty out there and it’s just as bad in person as it is in pictures. Truly, this is an extremely unattractive interface. We are definitely regressing.

Crime City Gun Locker Event and Epic Boss Event

Crime City is pulling out all the stops for this weekend with a 20% sale, a new Gun Locker event and an Epic Boss Event. I do like the new Gun Locker Event where you get a reward for 3,5,7 and 9 pieces, rather than the 5, 10, 15 they had for the pearls. That is a bit more of an incentive. However, if the same 1 in to 10 chance holds, getting these new items will still be as much of a pain in the ass as ever. It took several dozen tries just to get the 11 pearls from the last event. And now that I have 4 piece, I bet it will take a dozen tries to get number 5. The first few levels of Willie King have been fine, but of course it’s taking forever to beat him down.
