Call of Juarez Gunslinger – A Beauty of an Arcade Shooter

I bought this game the other day in the Steam Summer Sale and I was quite anxious to try out these new monitors. I’m not a First Person Shooter fan for the most part. Halo, Call of Duty, etc aren’t my thing. Not because there is anything wrong with the game, I just suck at that style of play. Call of Juarez is a little more "arcade" style and the Western theme had my interest. It only took a couple of minutes to realize Juarez is utterly ridiculous and a hell of a lot of fun! I’ve never played any of these others in the series, but that’s pretty much irrelevant. For this episode you play Silas Greaves a Bounty Hunter who tells his tales of revenge while the patrons of the bar buy him free drinks. As the story unfolds you as the player live out of the action. Just keep in mind these are some tall tales. But […]

DisplayFusion – On Sale and On Steam

If you have multiple monitors then you need to get the most out of them and that means using DisplayFusion. It has all the power and features that Windows has been lacking since 1998 when dual monitors came around. With DisplayFusion you get a taskbar across each screen, a wallpaper for each monitor, easy window dragging, titlebar buttons, customized hotkeys, logon screen changer and a slew of other features. This has become my standard tool of choice when working with more than one monitor. And it’s not just for dual monitors. It can handle anything you throw at it. DisplayFusion is now on sale through the Steam store and that’s means it’s also On Sale. You can grab a copy for a mere $9.29. That’s 69% off! Sale Ends July 22nd. DisplayFusion on Steam for $9.29 About the Software DisplayFusion will make your multi-monitor life much easier. With powerful features like Multi-Monitor Taskbars, TitleBar Buttons and fully customizable Functions, DisplayFusion […]

Are these the signs that Microsoft is struggling?

First, Microsoft has announced that to be more agile, lean and mean, there will be an across board restructuring of the company. "The end goal is to bring products to market faster and encourage users to adopt Microsoft technologies on a variety of devices." To me, this sounds like two things. One, Microsoft is in trouble. Two, layoffs are coming. You never go through a re-org or realignment and keep the same number of people as when you started. Additionally, as another sign of weakness, the Surface RT has turned in some weak sales numbers and now Microsoft has a surplus. What do you do with a product nobody wants? Put it on sale of course! Rumor has it the price will drop by $150. And just to throw it out there, I don’t think the new Xbox One is going to make as big a splash as the previous versions. Even though Microsoft backpedaled on all the foolish ideas […]

System Cleanup on the Cheap – System Optimization Series

We’ve gone over a slew of tools that can be used to clean up and clean out your machine. With all those terabytes of space at your disposal it’s easy to let things pile up and folders will become bloated with unused files and duplicates of the same thing you couldn’t find from the first time you downloaded it. For this final part here are some tools to help you clean up your machine, recover disk space and remove some programs. All of these programs are FREE. Not shareware, or trials, or limited time versions. They are free tools to help you get the job done. From MindGems is FolderSize. Personally, I think this is one of the most beneficial tools you can have. This tells you how much space each file and folder on your machine is taking up. I found this to be an extremely beneficial tool in TuneUp Utilties which helped me remove over 500GB worth of […]

Ashampoo Core Tuner – Manage All Your Cores – System Optimization Series

Who doesn’t want to go fast? Ok, who doesn’t want their computer to go fast? Even if you don’t have the need for speed on the highway, I’m sure you hate the idea of a sluggish machine. Wouldn’t it be great if you could tell Windows that certain programs should get more quality time with the processor than others? Well, now it seems you can. Ashampoo Core Tuner is a really neat idea and something that should be built into Windows itself. In a small way, it sort of is. Core Tuner takes the idea of running a process with a higher priority and gives it a whole new spin. You don’t just mess with the priority of a running process, you can build profiles that change the priority as well as the number of processors an application can use. For example, if you have an 8-core machine, there really isn’t any reason why apps like Quicken, Dropbox, Index Your […]
