Decorative Case Event and PVP Empire City Event – Crime City

As expected there’s a new set of events for the weekend. The first is the Decorative Case Event with Jeweled Necklaces up for grabs. The prizes aren’t bad, but nothing like the Painting Crates and Modern Art event of last time. Unless of course you win the Top Spot and get that rabid bulldog prize. What the hell is that thing, the Hound of the Baskervilles? But that’s not all. The first Syndicate event has shown up. The Top 50 Syndicates with the most PVP battles will get the first prize. If you haven’t created one or signed up with somebody you better get on it. Trying to keep up with 10 people all running around kicking the crap out of each other is going to be tough. It should be interesting to see how this plays out. And seriously, who doesn’t want a Weaponized Escalade? Stay Thirsty My Friends! And On To Battle!

SSD – Not for my OS, but for my frequently used programs

I previously wrote that I wasn’t sure what I should do with my 120GB SSD. Should it run the OS? Should it hold the pagefile? Should it hold the TEMP folder? Well, everyone has an opinion and no one agrees. But I do have an idea. So here’s what I did. The main OS, Windows 7, is on the 3TB Barracuda. The pagefile (all 16MB of it) is on the secondary 3TB Barracuda. The SSD now holds my most frequently used apps. I didn’t put anything as clunky as Office on there, instead I install apps like Notepad++, Firefox, CCleaner, Irfanview, FastStone Image Viewer, FastStone Image Resizer, WinRAR, FocusWriter and XYPlorer. I run these every day and multiple times a day. It makes sense to put them on the fastest drive in the system. And they do start up amazingly fast. I’m sure there will be other small utility apps I’ll install there as I continue to get this machine […]

To Pagefile or Not to Pagefile, That Is The Question

So it’s 2013 and the question remains, do you need a pagefile if you have plenty of ram? And by plenty of ram I’m talking 32GB and above. Machines with 4, 8 or even 16GB probably still need a pagefile from time to time, especially if you do work with large graphics or video. But if you cross the 32GB threshold, do you need a pagefile and if so, where should it go? Quite frankly, no one seems to have the answer. Everyone contradicts everyone else. Some say that running without a pagefile will give you better performance, while others say apps won’t load correctly without one. Some claim putting a pagefile on an SSD drive is asinine, while others claim it’s the perfect place and perfect use for that drive. And then plenty of people cop out and say you have to test for yourself. We all know the pagefile is some legacy technology, but what happens if you […]

The AMD FX-8350 4Ghz Black Edition

Today I’ve put the finishing touches on the fastest machine I’ve built to date. I’ve put together a brand new AMD FX 8350 Black Edition running at 4 Ghz with 32GB of ram. I’ve outfitted this new rig with 6TB of hard drive space, a DVD Burner and Blu-Ray writer as well as 256GB SSD. I also included an NVidia GTX 630 video card with 4GB of ram. It’s all wrapped up in massive case by Silverstone and I installed Windows 7 Professional as my OS. And let’s not forget there’s a 1000 watt power supply giving life to my new creation. And what do I plan to do with this? Well besides the obvious answer of any damn thing I want, it was indeed built to hand Virtual Machines. It will easily handle the task of running a couple of server systems simultaneously. Plus, it has enough juice to do some decent gaming in the off season. I also […]

Epic Boss Event – Madame Payne – Crime City

Try as I might I couldn’t win the Car in the last even so I’ve finally given up. I went an extra two days opening Painting Crates in hopes of that Modern Painting, but luck simply wasn’t on my side. I did manage to get an abundance of Carnival Hammer’s and Vests, but alas, that was all. Well, no time to shed tears as it’s time for another event, this time an Epic Boss challenge with Madame Payne. She’s a saucy looking little vixen isn’t she? If the previous Boss Events are any indication I will be face down in the gutter by Level 10. I have a feeling this will take the lash to me before the end of the day tomorrow. I’ll get a couple of new weapons out of the deal, but I doubt they will be anything of significance. Last time around it was all Common items and nothing in the Uncommon or Rare category. So […]
