2 days, 15 gallons

Wow, making that much beer is a little too much like work, that’s no work. I think I made one of the classic blunders and forget to drink beer while I was making beer. I shall have to do better next time. But there you have, 2 days and 15 gallons of beer. Do I get a ribbon or something? And I still have time to work something out for tomorrow. I really want to remake the ginger beer. There is a little debate over that one. I had problems when I made it last time and to me it doesn’t have a ginger flavor to it. Instead, I taste more coffee highlights. However, a guy I work with says it has, "ginger for days!" An impartial judge said he could taste some ginger, but that it wasn’t too strong and agreed the coffee aromatics were stronger than the ginger. So, which one of us is right? Looks like I’ll […]

On Deck, Outback Aussie Ale

The Hefeweizen has been completed, there is still time left in the day and we all know what that means. It’s time to make another beer! For this go round it will be the Outback Aussie Ale. I made this early last year and it was pretty good. It was a bit of problem beer though. It had a lot of fermentation and kept overflowing in the carboy. This time it will be made in a 6.5 gallon tank so we’ll see if there’s any difference. It was still a good beer and well worth having again. It was a darker ale, but easy to drink. Should make for a good beer when the temperature starts heating up in another month or two. By the way, making beer while watching Top Gear or Oz and James Drink to Britain is quite excellent. If you haven’t watched Oz and James talk about beer it’s very educational and entertaining.

American Hefeweizen is starting to boil

I have more kits than I know what to do with so an American Hefeweizen is in the kettle today. I figure I’ll stick with the lighter style beers for this weekend. I’ve gotten an early start, the weather is somewhat cool, and I have plenty of time left in the day, I just might try to make another batch after this one completes. This Hefeweizen is amazingly simple with just a grain bag and one bag of hops. It kind of makes itself. So which to do next, Aussie Ale or Ginger Beer? The finished is looking pretty good. This beer was a personal favorite of mine. I hope this batch turns out as good as the original one.

Mexican Style Light Lager

I think this has a long way to go before it looks like Corona. This is my latest batch, the Mexican Style Light Lager. Seems a bit muddy don’t you think? I hope this clears up a bit in the next two weeks otherwise we might be looking to change the name. Nice color though. As long as it ferments right? *** Not to worry, fermentation started and the beer has a nice head of foam going. At least it’s beer now and that’s all that matters.

Brew day is finally here!

It’s been far too long since I’ve made a batch of the Homebrew. I spent all Monday on a quest for beer pieces so now it’s time to make something. In the kettle we have 2 gallons of water getting nice and hot. And to that I will add a mixture to make Mexican Style Light Lager or as is more commonly known, Corona. A Corona clone has been on my list for some time, but all the kits were liquid. That is, until now. It spoke to me, it really did. It’ll be nice to have something on the lighter end of the spectrum. Don’t get me wrong, the beers I’ve made so far have been damn good. I just wanted something a little different. Mind you, tomorrow is either an Outback Ale, Ginger Beer or American Hefeweizen. Bottles, bottles everywhere and none of them have beer. I’ve got more empty bottles than full ones… Time to brew.
