A Slightly Deeper Look at Process Lasso

With all this talk about Process Lasso, I decided to download a copy and give it try. First things first, despite what so many people say, Process Lasso is NOT FREE. Like other "shareware", it’s free to TRY for 30 days. It keeps working after the trial period, but a majority of features are disabled and plenty of nag screens will pop up. That aside, Process Lasso is a tool built to tame your CPU and improve performance as well as invoke a Game Mode that gives your game a higher priority. All of this is to give a smoother and more responsive gaming experience. So does it work? My goal was to beef up Shroud of the Avatar, which is in Early Access and hasn’t had any optimization done. This test was to see if any improvements could be made by boosting the executable and lowering the priority of other processes. Right off the bat, Process Lasso offers a […]

A cleaner web experience with Self-Destructing Cookies

Self-Destructing Cookies is a cool little plugin I found yesterday that deletes cookies as soon as you’re done with them. Apps like CCleaner are great, but you need to run them on a schedule, so cookies will linger until the task is run. Self-Destructing Cookies runs as soon as the browser tab is closed and deletes all the cookies associated with that tab. This means all those useless cookies will be deleted right after you leave the site, not several days later. Why would you care? Have you seen the number of cookies that get downloaded from a site these days? It’s both shocking and distressing. I’m not going to sit here in a tin foil hat, but sites are serving up more than just ads. All sorts of "beacons" get written down and whether or not they track your movements, they’re utterly useless, especially after you leave. Of course, none of those get deleted, so they sit there collecting […]

Topping out with a Trillion Dollars in Crime City

Well, I figured this day was eventually going to come around. There was sort of no way to avoid it. Over the weekend, I topped out my bank account at over $1 Trillion dollars and have a current IPH of $393.7. Others have done the same thing, but I figured I would showcase this silly little achievement. I also think this might also be a good time to step away from Crime City. While it’s amusing to generate the cash and put up the buildings, the game has sort of run it’s course. We’re in a cycle of doing the same thing over and over again. The new events are just a rehash of old ideas and it’s nothing but Syndicate events. We’re basically going around in circles and I haven’t finished any of the actual Solo goals in more than a year. With that, probably time to put this away. Maybe I’ll keep putting up the LTBs or maybe […]

RightNote Professional 50% off at BitsDuJour

If you previously missed this offer and want to get a great note taking, word processing and spreadsheet combo, then you have another chance to pick up RightNote Professional for 50% off. I’ve been working with RightNote for a while now and it’s a very useful and dare I say a competent replacement for Word and Excel. RightNote goes beyond just note taking and offers a fully functional writing environment. You can easily compose short notes or full documents. If you were so inclined, it would be easy to rough out an outline for a long document and then dive in and compose the whole thing in RightNote. It’s not a substitute for Scrivener, but it’s a great writing environment that comes with a vast array of features. I’ve since switched away from OneNote to RightNote and it’s working very well for me. And for today, you can pick up the Standard or Professional version for 50% off. It’s well […]

Little Man Diner Limited Time Building (LTB) – Building Payout and Upgrade Cost – Crime City

So here is the next LTB, the Little Man Diner which has a small footprint and somewhat meager output. This is pretty much the norm these days. As usual, it’ll cost over $30 Billion to upgrade all the way. If you have the right modifiers you can drop that by half. the reward for each level is – Sinful Hot Cocoa atk-338,000 def-182,000 with +1% Explosive Defense. Not a great reward as you can get better by completing the first couple of levels of the latest Elite event. Yes, no prizes for guessing I have two of these upgrading already. They may not be the coolest buildings, but I’m still going to buy and upgrade them. That’s just the way I do things. 🙂 As an aside, I’m steadily climbing to the next big money tier. Base building cost and payout Level Cost Income Hours 1 $130,754,944 $1,029,090 24 2 $218,360,756 $2,058,180 30 3 $364,662,463 $3,601,815 36 4 $608,986,314 $5,659,995 […]
