RightNote Standard and Professional on sale for 50% Off

As I build up a new writing workflow, I need a new tool to replace Microsoft OneNote since it’s still the 2007 version and isn’t getting updated or supported. I’m not going to install the new version of OneNote for a variety of reasons including I don’t like the way it looks and I have privacy concerns in regards to how Microsoft is treating it’s latest apps. Microsoft is getting far too entrenched in this idea that simply because I use one of their apps, whatever I do with it or create with it is somehow theirs. I prefer to keep my data local and I prefer to make sure it stays mine. With that, I have brought in RightNote as my new multi-purpose, multi-tabbed writing environment. Like OneNote, you can create multiple "pages" to organize ideas and separate out topics. From there, each page can have multiple notes in a tree structure that can easily be moved around and […]

Scrivener for Windows and Mac Black Friday/Cyber Monday Sale – $25

As a final offer before the all the festive holiday sales come to an end, if you’re a writer, or an aspiring one, you might want to check out Scrivener which is on sale for $25. That’s around a 50% savings off the regular price. To be honest, I’m not as familiar with Scrivener as I should be. It has long been held as a quality writing tool and is very often mention in November to coincide with National Novel Writing Month (NANOWRIMO). I keep toying with the idea to get a copy and now I simply can’t argue with the price. I think this will couple quite nicely with Notebooks for Windows that I just picked up. I can use Notebooks to write down ideas for articles and then transfer them over to Scrivener if they’re going to take more research and links. The features for Scrivener are simply to numerous to mention, but from everything I can see, […]

Massive Black Friday Sale on Steam

It should go without saying there is a massive Black Friday sale going on over at Steam with thousands of games on sale. There are top sellers and indie titles all looking to get added to your cart. Far too many to list, but you can grab some great titles like: Banished Besiege Hand of Fate Left 4 Dead Mount and Blade Windward Savage Lands Wolfenstein Medieval Engineers And so many others for $10 or less. My personal pick would be to grab Banished, Besiege and Windward, all of which are at the $5 point. That is some serious fun to be had.

Paprika for iPad, Windows and Mac – Easy to catalog recipes, shopping list and now a big discount

Since we’re in the full swing of the holiday season, it’s appropriate to bring up another stellar iOS app that has both Windows and Mac equivalents. Paprika is a recipe box app that I bought a few years ago. In fact, I think I picked up a copy within a day or two of it’s initial release. For some strange reason, recipe apps were all but nonexistent for the iPad, which just struck me as odd since the iPad is a perfect cooking companion. Paprika stepped in with the ability to create a recipe database. It was basically just a shell to give you a place to store ingredients and instructions. On the surface it seemed far to simple, but in reality it was incredibly flexible and powerful. We now jump ahead a couple of years and not only has the app grown more powerful, there are now versions that run on most platforms. And like Notebooks, Paprika looks and […]

Games to get in the Steam Summer Sale

The Steam Summer Sale is in full swing and there are hundreds of games on sale. I’ve already bought several new collections of games that I’m looking forward to checking out, but there are some games I’ve already been playing that I think you should get while they’re discounted. These are all under $10 while some are under $5. Banished – A great game of city building, but it’s so much harder and more complex than it looks. Betrayer – A creepy and mysterious first-person shooter with lots of puzzle solving elements. Besiege – Build a machine of mass destruction and turn it loose on the sheep! TinyKeep – I’m not sure why I’m in prison, I’m sure it’s an honest mistake, but I’m bustin out of this joint! Age of Empires II – One of the greatest city builder/RTS games ever made. Rise of Nations – Another stunning RTS that goes from bows and arrows to nuclear warheads. Baldur’s […]
